Apple TV 2.0 reinvents TV viewing and gaming! Posted by: from: on I've had an Apple TV (Gen 1) for several years. Recently I upgraded to the new generation. The new generation breathes new life into an already grey at platform. I love the ability to download apps and customize my experience on the new unit. The fact that app developers can now develop custom apps for the Apple TV gives so many options when it comes to the selection of content I want to see. Even existing apps like Hulu and Netflix are re-skinned and have added functionality. The addition of Siri to the remote and interface is an added bonus that makes finding programs I want to watch easy and quick. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to broaden their viewing experience past traditional Cable options or wants the flexibility to watch TV on their own terms. I'm also excited to see how the gaming world evolves on this new platform. I've really enjoyed the ability to play games (like racing games) through the Apple TV. Great device and worth the price!

A big step backward from 3rd generation Posted by: from: Athens, GA on I had high hopes for this device, because I love my 3rd generation Apple TV, but, while this device adds some nice new features, deleted features make it worthless in my entertainment world. I use my Apple TV to stream music to my Pioneer AVR. The 3rd generation ATV allows you to browse your music library while listening to music, long press the select key, and make the selected track play immediately after the current track, or add a track, or even a complete album, to the "Up Next" list, and the selections will play in the order in which they were added. This is a great feature for creating a playlist that will last a few hours, and it makes it easy to incorporate music recently purchased, but not yet in a formal iTunes playlist into the current list on the fly. For me, these are vital features. Additionally, the touted "Siri Remote" appeared to be a feature making content searches easy, without all the clunky remote typing. Unfortunately, Siri will not search MY CONTENT, but will only search content on the iTunes Store. In short, it is a marketing feature for Apple, but has no practical use in my life. A $200 box that doesn't do the things its predecessor did so well, has useless added functionality that only serves to drive traffic to the iTunes Store, and doesn't deliver on the promise of touted new technology has no place in my home. Apple needs to return to their mission statement from 20 years ago. It was very simple. "Under Promise, Over Deliver". They have turned that concept on its head with this device. I kept it 24 hours, and would offer zero stars if permitted...

64GB Apple TV, Awesome!! Posted by: from: on I already had the previous Apple TV for a couple of years and use it to stream all the time to stream movies, music, apps, etc. The difference between this new 64BG Apple TV is that it now has built in memory so you can download the apps you want and customize the Apple TV to your liking whereas the previous version you could only use what it came pre-loaded with. As with any Apple product, I suggest you spring the extra money for more memory up front to the product has longer longevity. Setting it up was and very cool. I plugged in the power and HDMI cords and it asked me to set my phone on top and it "magically" set up my iTunes account and wifi information from my phone. The whole process took under a minute. Another cool plus was that it automatically synced to my Samsung TV so when i turn the Apple TV on/off it automatically turns the tv on/off with it and the volume controls work too, that was a nice plus I wasn't expecting. Lastly, I was able to add the Beachbody on Demand app and can now run that service seamlessly on my tv for my morning workouts. I highly recommend the new Apple TV and don't forget to get the 64GB version.

Excellent for those in the Apple ecosystem! Posted by: from: on Having been w/ Apple products for years, I can say that this was a great upgrade over previous Apple TV's. PROS: -Picking and choosing your own apps is awesome...I was pleasantly surprised when I first booted it up and there were zero third-party apps pre-installed. -Apple Music through my home theater without having to AirPlay. (Although it would have been nice to have this on my older ATV, it is a benefit for upgrading.) -While it is no PC or console, it is kinda' fun to do some simple mobile gaming on my TV, and some games have multiplayer support. -New remote w/ touchpad is outstanding! -Siri commands are awesome for search functionality! CONS: -Most of the above features are available through other manufacturers devices for cheaper. -Siri is limited to Apple TV related commands and does not have the full functionality of the iPhone version. -...and finally, my biggest con, there is no 4K support baked into this version. Overall, a great upgrade for those committed (or stuck?) to the Apple ecosystem and I fully recommend for those still in the 1080p level who do not yet have an Apple TV. If you have already upgraded to 4K, it might be worth waiting unless you just want a really cool new Apple TV experience.

Nice.... BUT! Posted by: from: on I have thoroughly enjoyed my previous Apple TV, having said that, I was looking at the new "bells and whistles" that the newest generation could bring. Well, I like the remote, from Siri to using the tracking pad, it is easy to use. It also works well with my Logitech remote control (although the logitech does not support Siri) Things that I did not like much... I have a high end equipment already set up, and I was bummed that there was no optical wire connection on the new model. This was a headache to sort out again since I was hoping to do the plug and play as the previous model. Outside of that, at the moment, and I know that it will change as more people develop apps for the new apple tv, but there just don't seem to be new things to take advantage of the full capabilities. I do recommend it but with a few reservations.

Great buy for only $159.99 for the 64GB Posted by: from: Long Beach on Initially the 64GB is $199.99 but of course Best Buy had it on sale for $159.99 and I had $10 in rewards so my Apple TV 64GB was only $149.99 yep the EXACT same price as the 32GB!! Awesome deal, I made sure I got it for my new 55 inch 4K Samsung tv, I saw people reviews complaining that the Apple TV doesn't have that Amazon app, well if you had a SAMSUNG TV then you would automatically have the Amazon Instant Video app and won't be upset that it isn't on the Apple TV. Me and my son have iPhones and iPads so the Apple TV was the better deal for the 4K Samsung tv, my son has the Amazon FireTv stick in his room plus his new XBOX ONE S is its own streaming device and have a lot of the EXACT same streaming media apps over WiFi like Starz, Encore, Showtime Anytime and HBO GO. This Apple TV was a great deal and I'm glad that I bought it and got it as the exact same price as the 32 GB

Excellent device. I love it!! Posted by: from: on I love the Apple TV 4th gen so much. Can't say enough about it. I used to have the Roku but since I have a MAC, I couldn't mirror my Mac screen onto my tv (well, I could, but only a couple of things could be mirrored), so I went and returned it for the Apple TV. It's more expensive but I'm in love with it. It's sleek in design (typical of Apple) and user friendly. But most especially, I love the fact that I can just mirror ANY screen Id like and watch movies with friends that come over without having to plug up an hmdi cable across the room (Because #2016). I can control my screen easily from wherever I am. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with it, I turn it on and smile:) Oh and I'm not getting paid to write this rating!.

New Is Not Always Better Posted by: from: on I have been using Apple TV's for years since the 1st generation. We have an extensive Apple network in our home. Currently we have 5 3rd generation ATV's in the house and I decided to upgrade the family room unit to this latest one. Set was easy, as I expected, but here is why I scored it 1 Star. Firstly they have removed the ability to have background music of my house (from my iTunes library) when using the slideshow feature to view my photo albums. So we can now sit there in silence while watching photos! Secondly, they have changed the overall background color from black, easy on the eyes, to white, too much on the eyes! We have a Samsung 65inch curve TV and the white background was just too much. Thirdly, in the Movies and TV show section they have increased the size of the movie jackets so there is less content on the screen, so you are constantly scrolling to see more. Other things that bothered me was the finger control on the new remote, its a little to sensitive so its all over the place and hard to keep in control and SIRI is useless. Tomorrow this goes back to BB. I am shocked that Apple has decided there choices for me instead of me. All other devices from other manufacturers allow you to customize your experiences with the way you interact with your stuff but Apple seem to be on a trend to take that away. I called Apple support to make sure I was not missing something and they confirmed they took the music feature away from the slideshow and they confirmed they did. When I asked why, they told me they felt it was better that way!!!

Big improvement over original model Posted by: from: on I've had an AppleTV since they first came out a few years ago and I finally decided to make the leap and get the upgrade. First of all, I love the flexibility I get in terms of what apps I can choose to have on my device. Before you were given them all and you couldn't delete or add. Now there's an App Store and you can include games, video streaming, etc... I also love the upgrade to the remote. It has a touch screen key pad and it operates like a touch pad mouse -- it's clickable and intuitive. The device is easier to turn off than ever, which I love. And the shortcut buttons on the remote are incredibly useful. I only need minimal clicks to get out of my Netflix shows and back to my main screen, where Siri can direct me to a selection of movies to rent based on my mood. My big love of the AppleTV is how easily it becomes a home theatre. I've spent years investing in it, making all my new movie purchases on iTunes. It's accessible on all of my devices in addition to the AppleTV and it's one less thing I have to worry about.

it's o.k... Posted by: from: Florida on I purchased the Apple TV 4th Gen 64 gb. Right off the bat the apps are a nightmare for people like me who have difficulty reading from near to far sight because you have to enter the codes from the website to your device. For me, It is too much work and annoying. I wanted to plug the device in and select my apps and relax and enjoy myself. But I guess it is not that easy. Some of the apps you also have to download to your Iphone first before you can load to the apple tv. There is not anything to offer for realtime tv that I still watch. I don't see how to cut the cord with this device alone because you do have to have a cable service for most the apps you download. I think I would have been better off putting my money into something else. I do like the mirroring with my Iphone and the access to youtube. I have to say this device is helping one of my tv's that had a pre existing problem with one side of the screen being dark. When the apple tv is plugged in I can actually see the entire screen. So that is great.
