Mac Mini for my parents. Works like a Champ! Posted by: from: on I purchased the 2.6GHz, 1TB HD for my parents. Coupled with an AOC 27 inch monitor, and a basic Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse. The setup works like a Champ! I used Apple Care to setup for parents. Both Mom and Dad have different Apple User ID's on this computer to interface with each of their iPhone and iPad. Both are very happy with the upgrade from their clunky Microsoft computer. After some initial training, they are off to the races. My folks who are both 70 have a renewed interest in learning how to drive the new Apple computer. They don't feel like they have to manage as much as their previous PC. Simple is good for my folks. My impression after purchasing and using the 27 inch Mac with 3.3GHz and 2TB fusion drive, I thought the 2.6 GHz Mac Mini was a great alternative for the dollar! Don't get me wrong, the 27 inch Mac is a fast computer, but the Mac Mini would have satisfied my simple needs of basic family photo library and simple video editing, web surfing and basic consumer programs. I'm very happy with all of my Mac gear.

So far, so good Posted by: from: Hoover, AL on I already have a nice monitor, so I decided to get a Mac mini for my next computer. I debated about which model to get and settled on the mid-level late 2014 model. I've heard people complain about it not being upgradeable and that the 2012 models are more powerful. However, I'm not interested in upgrading it, and this particular model has as much power as I need. It comes with Yosemite already loaded on it and has performed well so far. I originally thought about going with the Fusion Drive model, but this model has been very snappy so far and is plenty fast for me. For $200 more than the base model, you get twice as much RAM, a twice as large hard drive, and a much better processor. There are always more powerful computers out there, but this one does what I want without breaking the bank.

Great Cheap Desktop Alternative Posted by: from: on Being a PC user for 25 years and giving Macs a try, I have to say I am never going back to PC. Everything that PC does, Mac streamlines it and it JUST WORKS. I can't tell you how many times I had to troubleshoot things on a PC that I never encounter on a Mac. Now to this particular Mini, it is a great desktop for normal uses. It can browse, play Steam and App store games well, and even do most uses in editing software like Photoshop and Premiere/Final Cut Pro X. I do have to say though that the 8GB ones that I used was not enough RAM for what I use it for. I wanted to keep the mini and just upgrade the RAM, but Apple ended up deciding not to make the mini configurable. Even the new MacBooks are not configurable once you receive it. You need to configure it when you purchase it and I think this is why I can only give it 4-stars. If you want a cheap desktop alternative that will work the same each and every day, then get this mini. Just make sure that you get the RAM you think you may need for the future if it is higher than 8GB. Best Buy needs to offer mini's higher than 8GB.

good experience with open box item Posted by: from: on The mac mini's been out a long time and there are plenty of reviews here. I'll limit my comments to the fact that I specifically was looking for an open box mac mini. The online BestBuy shopping cart helped me identify the single store (of the 3 in my area) that had an open box mac mini. I could not get an online chat rep to get to me so I drove to the store. I wanted to be sure of the difference between open box (meaning returned within the 15 day post purchase period) and a refurbished item. The rep answered that question I.e., refurbished means broken and repaired for resale. Of the two open box items, the rep was willing to cut open the resealed boxes to let me take a look. One had many scratches on the top. I one I bought looks new. I'm happy so far (2 days in ) with the purchase. The rep reminded me that I have 15 to return or exchange with no restocking fee. THis is good because I was looking at the imac as well, so I've got options,

The desktop replacement that's actually a desktop Posted by: from: on The Mac Mini is a great way to try Apple computers on for size. If you are an iPhone or iPad user this is a natural progression. Use the monitor, keyboard, printer and mouse you probably already have and simply plug these into the Mini's easily accessible ports. You'll enjoy the way it integrates your existing iPhone based contacts mail and messages. Add Microsoft Office (or simply use the Apple Pages, Numbers and Keynotes Aps which are included for free) and your Mac will play nice with all the Windows computers in your life. One weakness to the operating system is the file management system which takes some getting used to, but it's not serious enough concern to be a deal breaker. This is a great value for the money, you'll be able to scoff at the naysayers who claim Apple products are too expensive. I was looking for a laptop that would serve as a desktop replacement, but got the Mac Mini and a iPad Pro instead- for about the same price I would have paid for a Microsoft Surface Pro

Just awesome! Posted by: from: on For $679.99 you can't beat it for a Mac. Granted being a dual core instead of quad means you can't run as much, but at 2.7ghz who can complain? Video streaming on the Intel Iris is awesome with Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube. Even gaming is sufficent with the few titles available. Games such as Bioshock, Doom3, Oddworld, and Left 4 Dead 2 run great. Haven't tried Bioshock Infinate yet though. The operating system runs very smoothly, and boots up really fast. Navigating is a bit of a stretch if your used to Windows, but it's easy to leard quickly. In my opinion this OS is much more sleek and easy to operate than Windows by far. All in all I think this is the best Mac computer for the entry level. Definitely worth the $200 more than the $479.99 1.4ghz machine. Cause of this computer I will definitely buy an iMac or MacBook Pro as my next upgrade down the line.

Wow... a Desktop Mac for that price. Posted by: from: on I was going to replace my Lenovo and was told about the Mac Mini. I checked what it had and was immediately taken by it. Never thought I could afford a desktop Apple computer. This was great. Had to add new monitor (from elsewhere) since it has HDMI or USB connections. Works great. Fast! and so much more. Takes up little space. I even got a small stand (from Amazon) so it stands upright. FANTASTIC computer.

This is a PowerHouse Posted by: from: on I was one of those people that said they would never own a Mac, well I now own a Mac, and I love it(I have been a Dell guy for about 20 yrs). Amazing how it can process so many different apps all at once and not getting "frozen." One of the main reasons I bought this Mac Mini was..I am able to install Windows on it, so I did not have to go out and re-buy all my specialty programs. The price I got this Mac, the trackpad, the keyboard(and I like the 2 USB Ports in the keyboard...very handy), the Apple Superdrive and my external backup drive was cheaper than buying a desktop PC that I was looking at. Another reason is the size of the Mac Mini-My desk is pretty much clutter-less now. After a little learning curve as to were to find everything on a Mac, I get around easliy now. Don't be afraid of Mac, OS it is actually very user friendly. So far so good, no hang-ups, I have not received any operating system errors. So if everything goes ok with this Mac, in a few years I probably will upgrade to one of the Apple 27" all-in-one Mac's.

Excellent Computer for Beginning Audio Student Posted by: from: on I teach a 6 weeks Music Composition and Recording course to my Instrumental Music Students at the High school where I work. I have quite a few years of personal experience with recording digital audio so I decided to share my knowledge with my students. We had been using a PC in our class that was becoming extremely unreliable. I switched over to a Mac Pro 6 years ago because of similar problems with recording digital audio on my PC so I decided it was time that we made the same switch over at school. We are a small school on a small budget so I thought the Mac Mini would be a good entry level computer for us. As I expected, the Mac Mini has worked flawlessly with our recording software (Logic Pro X). My students have been excited about the new platform, the GUI and the recording software. The only thing this Mac Mini model doesn't come with is an SSD drive, which would speed up our workflow. We'll upgrade the HD at a later point in time. Excellent product!!

Small, compact but has all you need Posted by: from: on I purchased this miniMac (my first Mac) to replace my 5 years Windows HP Desktop. I like that I could reuse my old devices input plug n' play that I previously owned with my windows operating system. I had two monitors LCD ranging from 19'-25" that I hooked with this miniMac and it works like a charm, you are going to need an adaptor from Thunderbolt to VGA or DVI probably the only accessory you will ever need to add with this purchase. Boot up and set up are much easier than with Windows. After installing all my favorite apps and get to know more about iOS and this miniMac I can really recommended the higher end for the miniMac series but either you can not go wrong. I gave 4 stars because I needed more speed and this model kinda lacking a hair behind otherwise IMO I really enjoyed iOS other Window.
