Q: Do I need a modem with this Router?

A: Yes, you will need a modem if you have a tyical internet connection, like cable or satellite. If you have fiber optic internet you will need a small box that is a little different than a standard modem. But yes, this router is only a router, another device will be required.

Q: Is this 5ghz, 2.4, or more?

A: it has 2 x 5ghz and 1 x 2.4ghz radios

Q: Is this a better router than the one I bought from Beat Buy last year the Netgear Night hawk X8

A: I had the X10 and yes it's better than that one, don't know about the X8
