Great starter projector, if it cools properly
This projector was purchased to replace a W1070 I purchased in 2013. The projector I replaced worked great for about a year, but then I started getting a flashing red lamp light which basically meant it was overheating. The projector was cleaned monthly, which I believe was what gave it enough cooling to be intermittent. It is a great projector with several addons that typically come in higher priced models. I never got into 3D so I don't have experience with it on this projector, but I've heard great things.
I've had the new W1070 for just over a month and so far it's running fine through hours and hours of hockey. I do notice that the fan noise is much louder than the previous model I had, so I'm guessing there were some changes to fan cfm because of my issue.
I gave it 3 stars due to the issues I had with my first one, but also say it's a great beginner's projector that puts out a great picture.

A "Good Enough" Projector
I've always been a plasma fan and have owned the best. (aka Pioneer, Panasonic.) Therefore I am used to amazingly inky black levels, which result in brilliant deep colors. I knew that getting this projector would have it's benefits and downsides.
Pros:
Size of picture! (I'm projecting a 105" screen. A TV this size would be in the 5 figures!)
3D is amazing! (Largely due to the large screen size.)
Cheap! (Only about $870 on sale, compared to the $2500 I paid for my Panny 65GT50.)
Cons:
Picture quality is considerably worse than top notch plasmas.
Fan is kinda loud, but not bad enough for me to return it.
Need to replace lamp bulb.
Overall, I moved my plasma to my bedroom and have now made this projector as my main set up in the living room. Even though the picture is not even close to my plasma, it's "good enough." It's still 1080p, it's still HD, but the colors just don't pop and the black level isn't inky. Basically the increase in picture size overrides the loss in picture quality.
Watching DirecTV, blu rays, and gaming is a new experience on a 105" screen. 3D is the most impressive. Having a giant screen really enhances the experience. I can appreciate the depth and pop outs more than on my 65" plasma. In this case, size matters folks!
Honestly, the reason I bought this projector was because of the value. For only $870, it was worth trying out. To me, the 3D alone was worth the price. Even though the picture quality isn't as good as my plasma, the size difference makes it worth it, especially with 3D. This projector is definitely worth a trial run.
Tip: You do NOT have to buy the Benq 3D glasses. You can get cheaper one's online and they work just fine. (Personally I have SainSonic and TrueDepth.)

One of the best purchases of my life!!!
Ok, so fair warning, if you purchase this be prepared for all your friends to come over and watch every sporting event! This thing is legit and works great in our basement WITH the lights on! Movies are incredible on this as well. For $900 you won't find a better projector out there. We have yet to test out the 3d side of the projector so I can't comment on that. It's laughable that you can spend $3500 on an 80" TV when you can get this for under a grand. Also, no bad seat in the house when this projector is fired up. We bought a remote screen to come down from the ceiling and found that it was actually bright enough to have on the wall without the screen, saved us $200!
