I purchased this over a month ago and I am amazed at just how well it cleans the crustiest of dishes. I do have 2 issues with it...the first is that there seems to be no way to turn off the beeping that indicates the dishwasher is done. The directions in the manual seem to be for a different model....and after discussing this with someone at Bosch - they too were at a loss. They agreed to send out a service tech - but then informed there was no one in my area. If you run your dishwasher at night - keep this in mind - because you have to manually turn it off or it beeps all night. My second issue is that sometimes the door must unlatch slightly...because I will check on it after several hours and nothing is happening. I give the door a little nudge and the cycle resumes (I always make sure it's closed tight after I start a wash cycle). Bosch told me I could return it - but after paying a plumber to install it I'm already a couple of hundred bucks into this dishwasher - and don't want to pay to have a replacement installed. So frustrating!!

Works well as long as latch doesn't malfunction

After looking at several models and reading reviews we decided to purchase this dishwasher several months ago. Bosch is a well known brand and we were very excited to be upgrading from our old GE dishwasher. The unit was installed by Best Buy contracted installers and that process was very simple and worry free. The unit looks very nice and we were very pleased with our initial use of the washer. It cleaned so much better than our previous washer. The controls were easy to manage and were hidden under the edge of the counter for a cleaner aesthetic appearance. The stainless steel tub is very nice. It didn't seem to have quite as much room as the GE but it was sufficient for our needs. This washer was extremely quiet. Most of the time we couldn't even tell it was running if it weren't for the red LED light that was broadcast onto the floor while running, which is a very nice feature. All in all it functions very well with the exception of one major problem, which is why I am giving 3 stars...
The only thing wrong, or potentially wrong if you are considering this unit is the latch system. About 2 months in we started noticing that it hadn't finished its cycle after being started before we went to bed. We woke up the following morning to the unfinished cycle. Upon closer inspection we noticed that the door was not shut. We ran trial and error on it for several weeks. Some of the time it was fine and would complete its cycle and some of the time it would not. Over the last month we noticed that it was only getting worse and more frequently it would not complete its cycle. Finally I had no choice but to call the store and discuss the situation. Best Buy Customer Service was EXTREMELY helpful. I cannot say enough nice things about the level of customer service and professionalism they displayed. They took care of the situation and I am currently awaiting a replacement to be delivered and installed. Thank you Best Buy for making a potentially stressful situation a completely worry free one.
So, in summary, if you want to take a chance on the latch functioning appropriately then this would not be a bad choice. If the latch on our unit was still functioning properly we would be very happy with it. Unfortunately, after speaking with the installer, this is a fairly common occurrence with this model. We chose to go away from Bosch for this reason and for this reason only.

I spent a LOT of time trying to find the right dishwasher. Seemingly, everyone had a problem or complain (based upon reviews). I ultimately pulled the trigger on this one, based upon the brand, and Consumer Reports reviews.
By and large I'm very happy with this machine. I had been worried (and read complaints) that it doesn't get the dishes dry, but if you use Jet Dry. they turn out fine. Sometimes I'll open the door after the cycle is done and let it cool, other times I'll run it overnight. But overall, they come out pretty dry with the jet dry. No complaints there.
The machine is indeed very quiet, as I'm sure most other reviews will attest. As for the another common complaint -- a "plastic smell" -- it may be there SLIGHTLY, but not in any way that would bother me. You'd have to look for it. So technically, there may be a slight plastic smell, but nothing to be concerned about at all.
My one slight knock is minor, in that the tines don't seem the best for lining up my dishes (I used a lot of bowls). And maybe the inside is smaller than other dishwashers, but we are only a couple, so it is big enough for us. Likewise, the tines are easy enough to make work. And I do love the utensil rack.
All in all, I am very happy with this purchase. As long as it holds, up, I recommend it.

Broke almost immediately, no support from anyone

We purchased this dishwasher on 28 May 2016, and after 5 days it broke - would not fill with water at all. We contacted Bosch warranty support, who set up an appointment with a repair shop... for 8 days later. The repair tech came to the house, spent about 15 minutes looking at it before declaring the issue was a bad water valve, then left without giving us any sort of an ETA for a fix. We waited another 10 days without hearing anything before finally calling the repair shop for a status. After three tries (the first two were literally "Oh, I'll have her call you." and "Oh, I don't know why she didn't call you."), we finally were able to get in contact with someone who knew what was going on with our dishwasher, and she told us the part was in and someone would be out to install it... in 7 days.
Given this, we contacted Best Buy for assistance. Since (due to the Bosch-authorized repair shop's extremely slow turnaround time) we were outside the return window, the person we spoke with was very apologetic, but was unable/unwilling to help us at all. We then contacted Bosch's warranty support team, and were told "We don't have any control over the repair company, we just validate they are authorized to repair our dishwashers."
So, we've had our "new" dishwasher for a month now, and have gotten 5 days of use out of it. The repair shop doesn't care, Bosch warranty support doesn't care, and Best Buy doesn't care. I strongly recommend you avoid this dishwasher specifically, and Bosch in general - if you get lucky and have no issues, they appear to be great (we bought one based on the strength of the positive reviews, so it's clear that people can get good ones), but if you run into any issues at all, be prepared for a long wait and absolutely no interest from Best Buy or Bosch in making things right.

Design Defect - Avoid!

I bought this in July 2015. I worked for two weeks then the door latch broke. After waiting for 2 months, a factory authorized a repair person came out (I bought the Best Buy extended warranty which doesn't do anything until year 2) and he couldn't fix the door and has to refer directly to Bosch. Also, the local parts company has many, many door parts then usual so this sounds like a design defect. Also, I don't like the way dishes, etc. stack in the dishwasher vs. my old Kenwood but at this point I would settle for it to simply work. I would avoid this model until Bosch fixes this problem.

The machine is excellent ... Beware the Open Box

I bought this as an open box purchase. The sales staff at the pickup counter as well as the staff in the appliance department were both very helpful. The warehouse staff unwrapped it so I could look at it and then rewrapped it. All very good. On line I was offered free delivery but was told by store staff by phone that it woud not be available as this was on open box purchase. The appliance staff person said I could have gotten free delilvery. When I got the dishwasher home, I noticed a few things. It was in excellent condition but there were parts missing (screws and the kickplate) as well as the manual and warranty card. I downloaded the manual and set about installing it. I noticed a fine gray discoloration to the front of the black face which looked like it may have rubbed off from the bubble wrap used to protect it. It comes off but not easily. My wife called about the missing parts and was cut off after 25 minutes with the store. She then called 888-BEST BUY and was on and off with a representative who sounded as if she would get the parts for us. She took our number and this call was cut off after over 45 minutes. She did not call back. I considered returning it at this point but already had it partially installed. As I was installing the machine I found the price sticker attached to the inside of the door. Under a heading "Missing Accessories" it states "NO MISSING ACCESSORIES" Once finshed, I called the same 888 number to see if I could get the kickplate to "finish" the job. I spoke with a very kind gentleman who was very helpful. He was on and off the call for about half an hour. He tried different solutions but none worked. In short, he said I could have gotten the parts if I had bought an extended warranty but, since I didn't, he could not go farther in getting me the missing parts. It seems the "no missing accessories" comment from the price tag means nothing after the purchase. He said the only real solution I have is to return the unit.... I am considering it.

I have bought open box from Best Buy in the past. I have a washer/dryer open box purchase set that is over 10 years old (I still have the manuals). No hitches at all. I've actually bought open box with confidence in the past from several stores but I am now skeptical. (I would point any Best Buy staff who may see this to the owner's manual. I am missing screws, a printed manual, a warranty card, and (I believe) the kickplate.)
Would I recommend this machine - certainly - its very quiet, cleans very well and the dishes are dry at the end of the cycle.
Would I buy open box from Best Buy again? Certainly not.

Excellent! Super quiet. My husband didnt realize it was running even though he was standing right next to it. I have to touch it to tell if I don't look for the light. I like the light that shows on the floor when it's running. It does not have a heat dry cycle and I'm glad. I never used it on my last dishwasher because I use a lot of plastic dishes and tubs. Dishes dry fine without it. The flip down storage piece on the top rack is useless except for small knives since it sits too close to the top of the dishwasher. The tines that make up the rack on the bottom which help separate the dishes are thin. Time will tell how well they hold up but I think they will be fine and it gives you a little more room for bulky items. The dishwasher is a very nice machine. That is the first time I've said that about a dishwaher. Cleans dishes perfectly. A+

Reliable, but a couple of design flaws

I bought this because I associate Bosch with reliable, quality, long lasting products. I hope it will be in the years to come.
After 6 months of use, there are a couple of design issues that cause me give this only a 3* rating. They are:
1. The lower rack constantly comes off the guide rails when you pull it out to load and then return it. The small guide wheels to not keep it between the rails, especially when the rack is fully loaded.
2. Stem wine glasses do not fit on the top tray. There are some fold out supports that allow you to load wine glasses at a 45deg angle, so they appear to fit. But when you close the rack, the base of the wine classes hit to roof of the machine and I've broken at least half a dozen wine glasses this way.
3. There is no quick wash function. Only a full 2hr cycle or a short rinse only cycle.
1. It cleans well
2. There is a red light on the base of the door that projects a beam onto the floor when the machine is operating. I found this a really useful indicator to let you know when the machine is active or finished
3. The delayed start feature is good
4. The racks have a high capacity (except for wine glasses)

A design flaw in this $699.99 Bosch dishwasher?

We have this new dishwasher purchased several months ago. We are having problems. We are Elite Plus rewards status. We called the Arden store. We don't get repair assistance since we didn't purchase a Geek Squad protection plan. We were told to call Bosch warranty since it's still fully covered under warranty. More about that call later.
This new "high end" dishwasher continues to leave unspent detergent in the dispenser and oozing down the inside front door and pooled in the floor of the dishwasher BUT more important, dishes are left dirty. We were told you shouldn't rinse anything before putting in the washer. Tried that. Then we tried rinsing prior to dishwashing which does help but still left with dirty dishes.
We were told to have the water pressure checked since maybe a hose is kinked, maybe an obstruction in the water supply, maybe even your pressure reducing value in the house needs replacing. Therefore, we called a licensed plumber who came last week and said the water pressure is excellent. No hoses kinked, nothing restricted.
Then I called Bosch warranty department who provided a local appliance repairman. His recommendation: just throw that tablet (or powder or liquid or gel) down in the bottom of the dishwasher since the Bosch dispenser doesn't work well (in his opinion based on his recent number of repair calls) since the dispenser is hidden from the water action by the top drawer handle when closed.
Its sounds like a design flaw. It's definitely not working as-is. Next step: request Bosch to send a representative to review my $699.99 dishwasher.

Good Dishwasher With One Flaw!

Our BOSCH is the cheaper ASCENTA model SHX5AV52UC. It was on sale at Bestbuy.com for about $500. It has the same stainless steel tub and the same dish racks and control panel as the more model costing $200-$300 more. It's generally very quiet in operation. There's an early spray-then-drain at the beginning of the cycle which is more audible, but that's over pretty quickly and it's very reasonably quiet after that. It took us a couple of days to get used to how to load dishes in these racks. After that, no problem. We bought it because our previous Bosch dishwasher was also quiet and did a great job of cleaning everything including silverware. Haven't noticed water spots, either, but our method is to open the door a couple of inches and pull out the top rack a little to prop the door open. We do this after we hear the rather faint beep-beep-beep that signals the end of the cycle. In other words, this Bosch is a worthy replacement for our old one and it cleans even better than before. THERE IS ONE PROBLEM, however. It's that the door latching mechanism is a little imperfect. This is because the outer body of the dishwasher which surrounds the stainless steel tub is a kind of reinforced plastic. This saves on manufacturing cost as well as shipping weight. BUT, the upper lip of the body can flex upward slightly if your under-the-counter mounting location has the usual extra quarter-inch or so leeway for sliding the dishwasher into place. So, when you close the dishwasher door it clicks to latch but, because the top edge of the body can flex upward, the latch may not be perfectly secure. The result may be that the door latch moves slightly and the wash cycle simply stops after a few minutes. As we discovered, reinforcing the top edge of the opening fixes the problem and provides a nice firm click action when you close the door - problem solved. It was the clever, knowledgeable Mike's Appliance Repair in Puyallup, WA who handled the issue at no cost under warranty and knew exactly how to resolve the problem, so we give him full credit. If you want a more rigid body, pay around $300 more for all-steel construction! Otherwise, the $599 SHX5AV52UC will wash your dishes just as well as the more expensive model.
