Wow! Great improvement in sound and clarity
Posted by: stang87 from: Houston, Texas on
I own the original Soundlink and have been happy with it. But I saw this III was released a few days ago and the new design caught my eye at a local Bose store in the mall. (I did purchase from Best Buy to get my rewards points!).
At home I compared the III to the original....iPhone linked to III and iPad to the original, with both set at same volume with same songs. There was no doubt the III has had a major upgrade in clarity. My original Soundlink sounded muffled and muddy compared to the III. I tested them both at mid volume and then max. The III sounded great even when full volume. At mid volumes they both sounded kind of similar, but the III edged the original in bass and clarity. Bass on the III is tight and clean, not overpowering. I tried several genres and was pleased with my new purchase!
The weight is about the same as the original. The III is about a 1/2" longer and taller, depth is the same. I did like the integrated cover on the original and II (III does not have), but I will get over it. I will search for a carrying case for the III.
Overall very happy with my purchase. This speaker is awesome! I plan to enjoy it for awhile (at least until the IV comes out someday...haha)

The Best Gets Better
Posted by: FrequentFlyer87 from: Atlanta, GA on
I also own the previous generation of this speaker (the SoundLink II), but was excited for this new model as battery life has almost doubled versus the prior model. The sound quality has also improved slightly, but I already considered the SoundLink range of speakers to have the best sound quality in their class. I have friends who have Bluetooth speakers from other manufacturers (i.e. Jawbone's Big Jambox, etc.) and they've all agreed that the SoundLink performs better, particularly at high volumes. Even with the speaker and audio source both at max volume, the sound is clear and bass undistorted. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality, well-built, portable speaker.

Good speaker for a small room.

initially purchased the Mini based on the excellent customer reviews. The Mini sounded great. After learning about the Soundlink III I purchased that, planning to return one of them. The III gets much louder and sounds great. The battery lasts a long time and it seems to be very well built. I returned the mini favoring the louder III. Pairing has been very easy and Bose offers the BEST tech support. Most of my calls to them are due to operator error and they are so helpful. The excellent tech support is one of the main reasons I continue to purchase Bose. The III was my 6th Bose purchase and I will continue coming back. Small in size.. Big in sound!!

Another great product from Bose
Posted by: MAus5757 from: Denver, CO on
As an avid fan of Bose, I decided on the SoundLink III after comparing it to the smaller Bose SoundLink Mini. I chose the SoundLink III for the longer battery life and my assumption that it would be louder & be able to fill a bigger area with music. I am completely satisfied with my purchase, however I do wish it had the ability to be a bit louder. While it is loud enough to be a disturbance in a hotel room, outdoor use in a semi-noisy area isn't ideal. However, for portable speakers I shouldn't expect more. I love the large buttons on top of the speaker and how easy it is to connect via bluetooth. While I do think you could get a speaker that accomplishes the same task for a lesser price, trusting in Bose and knowing the quality/durability of previous products I've purchased has gained my loyalty. If you're deciding between this and the SoundLink Mini... go for this. It is just as easy to transport in my opinion, and I am a firm believer in "go big or go home." The extra cost is worth it when you're making a purchase that will last you for years.

BEST Gift EVER
Posted by: AZJAN from: on
Received this last Christmas from my husband, and a day doesn't go by that I don't tell him that it was the BEST Gift EVER. It goes with me wherever I go, I always have my Pandora or Spotify at my fingertips. It is super easy to use, easy to carry and transport, and connects in a blink of an eye. For anyone who loves their music, this truly is the best gift, and because it is a BOSE you are getting excellent quality... Remember , you get what you pay for.... My husband is a musician and he agrees the sound is superb . I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone.....

I owned the previous Soundlink II. I upgraded because the battery life is so much better on this device. This is another great Bluetooth speaker from Bose.
Sure the cost is $300, but would recommend this speaker to anyone looking for a higher quality product. Bose knows how to make a speaker that covers a broad range of music.
The speaker does play louder than its predecessor, and with great clarity and no distortion. I would recommend this speaker to anyone. Very happy with my Bose purchases.

Huge sound, huge price, small unit
Posted by: Daddy from: on
I was looking for a bluetooth speaker for my wife for Christmas and read up on all the ones available in this price range. Some reviews claimed the Bose lacked in bass but I'm not hearing it. It has plenty of bass, any more and it would be too bassy. I'm guessing those people prefer bass heavy music. The Bose is balanced, clear, and plenty loud to fill a room or provide backyard bbq music. We listen to plenty of metal, rock, and heavy music. This unit has no problem with it sounding fuzzy or distorted. The battery life is awesome, that's what eventually sold me. You run out of beer before you run out of battery. If you don't mind the price or your ears don't hear the difference then go with a lower priced unit, if you want quality go with this Bose. Wife's happy, I'm happy....now I need one for myself.

Nothing Beats a Bose!

One must truly listen to this speaker to understand how incredible it is. Comparing to the Soundlink II, which I also own, the sound does have a bit more bass and sound just a bit fuller. It can play extremely loud, and very few people would have a need to go as loud as it can get. For the price, you should make sure to get the Soundlink III over the II, as it is only a few dollars more. The one thing that it doesn't have is Airplay, which I feel for the money should be included. You have to go to another more expensive speaker to get that. But, it does offer an aux input which can be useful for those of us who have other items to connect besides bluetooth phones/tablets. Unlike the Soundlink II, the Soundlink III does not have a built in cover that doubles as a stand. While you can buy cases for the III, this is one feature I particularly liked about the II. Overall, it is an amazing speaker and I highly recommend it.

Okay Product. Returned.

I wanted to replace my wired speaker system in my room for less clutter. I have wanted to purchase a Bose Soundlink since the first generations came out to replace my current set up. A lot of great reviews so I went ahead with the purchase of the Soundlink 3.
Took the speakers home, set it up, and played some music via my laptop (bluetooth). I was not satisfied with the sound I was hearing so I tried other songs of different genres. I really wanted to like it, but after an hour of trying to convince myself to keep it, I reboxed it and returned it the next morning.
The speakers sounds okay. Not enough treble and the base on all the songs were amplified which is not okay with me. For music that required a good amount of bass (at least to my liking), I thought there was not enough bass and I did have it couple inches in front of vertical walls. I guess it is a good product for being wireless (being my first) and compact, but I am sticking with my wired system for a bit longer until I can pair multiple units to get the effects of multiple speakers.

Too much bass
Posted by: NoName from: TX on
Sound quality is good, even at high volume. Build quality is good. Mine is replacing the original jambox and this outperforms the jambox in all acoustic ways. Where it falls short is in mix. The jambox was never loud, and bass could be pumped up by turning the jambox to face a solid surface, bouncing the sound extended the bass. There is no such "trick" to diminish the bass on the Bose. Sound quality is good, but the bass simply overpowers - and there is no way to turn down the bass.
Then there's the power cord, it isn't miniUSB, it isn't anything other than a Bose proprietary connector. My jambox shared a cord with my windows phone and my Kindle, now I get to carry another power cord.
Of all those tested, I liked this one best for sound quality, I just wish I could dial back bass a bit.
