Q: If I'm reading the description correctly this is a dual band radio that has normal 22 channel "walkie talkie" capabilities along with the marine VHF band? Can anyone please verify this as the description does not show anything about GMRS band, only VHF.

A: No, it only has 15 GMRS channels, not 22. It excludes the 7 half-watt "FRS only" and the 8 GMRS repeater input channels. It also receives 10 NOAA weather channels and has about 87 distinct maritime channels (US, Can, international frequency combinations, TX/RX).

Q: What is the range on max power.

A: "Your mileage may vary"--- Walkie-talkie to walkie-talkie with stock antennas, in most environments, you will be lucky to get over 1 mile, unless one of you is on a mountaintop or you are talking across water, then who knows how far they will go? At 5 Watts on VHF frequencies, with very good well tuned mast mounted antennas, you should be able to get 10 miles or more. With marine transceivers running 25 Watts or more, properly connected to good well tuned mast mounted antennas you should be able to talk 20 to 50 miles. Just remember, your mileage will vary. In other words, that question can't really be answered, only proven in the field.

Q: Can I talk to Cb radio whit this

A: This radio is not capable of transmitting on 27 MHz therefore can not talk or listen to anything on the CB radio.

Q: Does this pick up any police station channels?

A: It might pick up some small town analog police and fire transmissions, but most every public service agency now is on a digital trunking system. You'd need a scanner/radio that can pick up the county's digital trunking signals, which means you'd need a high-dollar scanner that specifically mentions "digital" and "trunking." Hope this helps.

Q: Looking for a hand held marine radio that shows your location on the water...

A: The handheld Cobra MR HH600W - DSC Floating VHF Radio has GPS and distress-signalling features.

Q: Just using the gmrs channels do I still need a license?

A: Because other people aren't so clear on this, to get a GMRS license you must register at the FCC website, and it's currently $70 for 10 years and covers your entire family. It does require it, and it is not the same as a ham radio license (which is much cheaper).

Q: How can I know what countries it gets Like will do and cook country

A: Maritime VHF channels are international, for marine use only. GMRS and weather is for US use only.
