I bought this speaker earlier this month after hearing its big brother (W9) at a Magnolia store. I am not an audiophile but I do know enough to tell you that this speaker is incredible for a wireless speaker. I have owned other wireless speakers and returned them for lack of satisfaction but this speaker is so much better. I have heard Sonos at length and this is a better speaker in my opinion for reasons other than just performance. The wireless technology (DTS) needs some work still but the fact that you can interchange these speakers with other wireless products (not just Def Tech) is appealing.
I have tried all sorts of sound on these speakers from classical to pop to R&B etc. and it is just terrific.
The speaker is pricey but you get what you pay for and I would buy this again in a flash. I want to get the W9 next (you should visit Magnolia and hear it) but this is a time of year for giving so that has to take priority.
Happy holidays to all.

Great sound quality

This speaker works great with our Polk soundbar through the playfi app. With this speaker we are able to have music throughout our house. The quality is excellent- price is a bit high since its not completely wireless (theres a power cord that has to be used).

Loved my first one so much, I bought another for a different part of my house. the acoustics are amazing and can easily overpower a small space. The design is minimalist; fits into any decor and takes up negligible space. I bought this product versus denon or sonos because of the ease of use and the ability to play what I wanted without being forced to use what sonos wants me to use.
I tried the play-fi app initially and then changed over on my sales guy's recommend to the definitive technology app; I'm not seeing any advantage at this point in using this dedicated app. While pricey, I'm thinking this is still a good investment for top of the line stereo equipment. One major displeasure I have is the inability to control multiple devices at the same time without purchasing an upgraded application. Seriously? At $400 per unit, DT ought to give it away!

Good, getting better
Posted by: jjstiernich from: on
I just added a 3rd W7 Def Tech cube to a whole house setup that includes a W9 and a Studio Soundbar. As wireless systems go, the sound quality is very good and the subwoofer is typical Def Tech solid -- far better IMHO than the Sonos system. Where the system stumbles is the wireless function isn't fully reliable. The system frequently "forgets" speakers that are part of the network or Play Fi dumps its connection in the middle of play. Both are generally easy enough to fix by either closing the app and restarting it or going through the speaker setup process to reconnect the forgotten speaker, but neither of those should be part of the standard operating procedure. Each software and app update makes the performance incrementally better, but it's still not to a point where I would recommend it to a friend. Keep working at it Def Tech and Play Fi...you're getting closer but you're not there yet.

We like the definitive Sound bar (that we already had) and the wireless speaker is a great addition. I hope Definitive Technology adds the ability to have the TV sound go to the wireless speakers soon! Music is great but an occasional football game would be nice to have on all the speakers.

Good speaker, terrible software

The speaker itself is awesome with fantastic sound. The software however is terrible and the wifi usage cuts out all the time and takes a while to reconnect, it is really annoying.

Purchased this speaker on the recommendation of the salesman. Had 4 1/2 hours of music ready for a special occasion. Two friends who are computer geeks couldn't get the speaker to work. So, 4 hour party with no music. Will return today.

This speaker sounds amazing and is simple to set up and get playing. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Would have like to get a W9 as well but it isn't in the budget just yet. I do play this speaker in conjunction with some Polk Omni S2 speakers and they work great together. You could also use these speakers with Phorus and Wren speakers since they all work together on Play Fi.

Very good sound quality for a small speaker.

Connection to the home wifi was a little challenging. It took several attempts. The iPhone app is ok but it could be improved. I will be using it mainly as a patio speaker.
