Worst product EVER! Posted by: from: Wausau, WI on This product does not work. It has so many issues that it sucked a full day of my life and still never worked. Customer support is completely useless. I got emails saying they were reviewing my case, then that they were closing my case - hoping my issue was resolved. Never got any help. I was working on a project on a tight deadline. I never got a single useable piece of video even though everything on the computer said it was working. When I would finish - it would say "capture failed." I finally took it back and suggested that Best Buy pull it from their shelves. Then I went somewhere else and bought Video Capture by Elgato. Worked perfectly with no issues at all.

Do not buy this software Posted by: from: Silvis, Illinois on Shame on me. I should have read the reviews before I picked this up almost 3 weeks ago. As other reviewers have stated, the tech support for this program is very bad. If you have a problem with the software then you'll probably do better researching the community groups. My issue is that I can not get audio into the Mac. Video appeared to work fine. All of the work-arounds suggested in the community area I tried but nothing worked. When I finally got an e-mail from tech support he instructed me to do everything I already tried. When I responded with "Didn't work, now what?" I never got an answer back. In the mean time, my free 14-day tech support expires. I just bought my Mac a couple of weeks ago.....latest and greatest OS. I checked out my RCA cables and the audio outs from my VCR and they work fine. I understand about the policy of Best Buy and other retailers concerning opened software not able to be returned...but this is ridiculous. Like I said...shame on me. I should have read the reviews on this site before committing to the purchase. Silly me, thinking that if I have a Mac and it's Mac software, it's going to work. Cost me $80 to learn that isn't always the case.

saving our memories is a breeze Posted by: from: on I was not sure what to expect, but this product is exactly what it is supposed to be. I am a new Mac user, so was so happy to be able to easily install the software--you'll need a cd player to do this. It records in real time, so if it's a 6 hour tape just let it run. Pausing during the recording process can allow you to skip some sections. You can create shorter recordings to break up long tapes also.

Gets the Job done, but that's it. Posted by: from: Wichita Falls, TX on On the plus side, I'd have to say that it is easy to install, easy to use and small and out of the way when not in use. On the negative side, I'd have to say that the quality of video transfer isn't the best. Tends to be darker and less resolution than the original. Significantly so. If you don't want to break the bank, it gets the job done, though I have seen better ones for more money.

Garbage Posted by: from: on This product is garbage. Could't get it to work. Roxio was not able to get this to work for me as well. After trying for over an hour, did a search online and found that forum after forum indicated that no one could get the video converter to work. DO NOT BUY!!!!!! Taking it back tomorrow.

Works as advertised Posted by: from: PA on I bought this to transfer old VHS kids movies to my NAS for streaming. GOOD: - Easy to connect and install: It took me longer to dig out the VCR and get it connected than it did to install the software and connect it to the VCR. - Straighforward operation: Once it's all set up, throw in a tape, press play on the VCR, and then hit record on the software. Easy peasy. - Good quality conversion: Keeping in mind that we're talking about VHS tapes on an old VCR, the quality of the output was good. Looked about the same as I'd expect if connected to an old "tube" TV. NOT SO GOOD: - Need more software for DVD To transfer to DVD requires iDVD (now included in iMovie) or some 3rd party burning software. (It does say this on the box though!) - Limited output options: Output options (or quality as Roxio calls it) is limited to 3; high, medium, low. High is the standard Apple Intermediate CODEC (.MOV), medium is h.264 (MP4) but no options to change the resolution from 640x480, and low is also h.264, but at the 320x240 resolution. - Instructions are dated: The instructions still refer to iDVD, even though that's now part of iMovie (since iMovie 10). It would have been nice for Roxio to have updated their manuals and boxes to reflect the changes in the software. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. I went in looking for another brand of capture card for Mac, but had to choose between this and a different brand. I went with this for the Roxio name. So far, it's been perfectly fine. As stated in my "not so good", I chose to capture in high quality (.MOV) and then convert that to a smaller MP4 using QuickTime. The .MOV is rather large (about 10GB for a feature film), but the final MP4 is much more reasonable (in the 100s of MB range), so it's all good. I may try to see if there's a difference in final quality between letting the Video Capture output directly to MP4 and me doing it with QT. If/when I do, I'll update the review.

Extremely Disappointed!!! Posted by: from: Loop, Texas on My computer is up to date and will run the software. Roxio uploads to the computer fine, but quality of video is very poor. Product says it has the capability to export to iTunes, but has no option for the export. The burn option didn't work properly either!!! I spent many hours trying to get it to work. Total waste of time!!! I tried Roxio support and did not have a good experience!! Because of the the high cost of the product and being very disappointed in it, I actually tried to return the item to the store where purchased. I was hoping for a refund, but did not receive one. Needless to say, I have a product that I will not even be able to use!!! The product was a total waste of money!!!

Audio & Video does not sync Posted by: from: on I had originally posted a fair review about this product as I had only tested it once sine the purchase and it seemed to have worked well. I spent my Thanksgiving holiday trying to transfer VHS using my Mac and this software. I wasted all my time trying to fix a sync issue between audio & visual. The software starts recording well for the first 15 minutes, then it starts lagging behind about a second or two by the time I am done recording a full hour I am behind 8 to 10 seconds. I thought it was the fact I FFWD so I started over left it running continuously and noticed that the longer it keeps recording the longer the lag. Terrible waste of money. Tried returning it at BB but I couldn't due to return policy. There goes $80!

Not Great Posted by: from: on Software needs to be upgraded. You should be able to choose audio or video or both. You should be able to specify the audio and video output format. Right now you only get .mov. When you play it QuickTime needs to convert the file which takes long. I also have serious issues with audio and video synchronization. I can continue to pick it apart but in conclusion the product would have potential with a serious upgrade. Wait for a new improved version.
