"DO NOT UPDATE TO MAP VERSION 2017.20"
Posted by: Nickname from: on
"DO NOT UPDATE TO MAP VERSION 2017.20" This was the 9th Garmin GPS I purchased in the past five years. It was a bought as a gift as were 3 others. The other 5 are mine. 4 of those 5 are used at my place of business. In the past I would recommend Garmin as the best in portable GPS as I have tried all the major brands. That all changed with the most recent map update. It is loaded with errors and omissions. It recognizes the streets but can not get many of the long established building or house numbers right. I use mine to drive to 60 to 90 addresses per day working for a utility company and must get to the correct address in a timely manner. I have found literally hundreds of errors and omissions that did not exist in the previous map version. If I could revert to the previous map version I would but according to Garmin customer service that is not possible. I had updated 4 of 5 of my units one weekend and began discovering the errors the following week as I worked. The only unit that was spared these problems was one in my personal car that I did not update. It still gives me the correct solutions when an address is searched. For these reasons I can not recommend Garmin GPS units at this time. If and when Garmin corrects these errors and omissions I will once again recommend Garmin GPS units.

Get navigation product for traveler

I travel for my job and recently upgraded from my Garmin Nuvi. What a difference. I love the fact that the Garmin will tell me in advance which lane I need to be in for an exit and also shows me what it will looks like. I also have it connected to my business phone, which allows me to see notifications like email & text messages and will read them if I request. I am still working on getting use to voice communications with the device. In all fairness I argue with Suri at times. The device is easier to read while driving and also much easier to remove at night, easy release clip on back of device. I also appreciate the amount saved favorites, it allows me to load all my clients and leave plenty of space for personal locations. The device also shows call ID for me. I found it difficult to hear and to be heard when talking using the GPS device and instead use the cell phone.

Very good GPS unit
Posted by: Astrobob from: Michigan on
This is the third GPS Garmin I have owned. They have always been accurate and no issues with glitches. The operation is intuitive and well laid out. I also have it auto link with me cell phone which is in my pocket so can answer without picking up the phone. The voice command for all the operations is very good. recognizes my voice with few errors. The volume is sufficient to overcome lots of road noise. The traffic allert feature is very useful. I only took away one star because i was planning on using the Garmin BC 30 with it as a backup camera. It turns out that if you do the power cord for the camera is also the antenane for the wireless camera...and the cord for the GPS is required for the traffic allerts so you loose the traffic alerts with the backup camera ! So I decided against the backup camera...will be looking for another provider for that....to bad. By the way I have owned three other brands of GPS...none of them can compare to the Garmin as far as accuracy and usability.

Garmin is useless.

I had issues with map accuracies of the Garmin. I insured the latest map up date 2017.20 was downloaded and installed. I contacted Garmin and they said they hold no responsibility for the map accuracies and that I need to contact their third party who provideds the information. What type of garbage is that?!! Here is the quote for the email :
"Unfortunately, the mapping is done through a third-party and the traffic is through the same company. If there are any issues with the mapping they can be reported using the link below." also had issues with Live traffic update the bad coverage it has. So the consumer is responsible for the third party Garmin uses to get the product to work right. Do not waste your money on Garmin. I have an older TomTom whose maps are always updated and live traffic is always connected wherever I go. I am now back using my 5 year old TomTom who has never let me down. I thought I was going to upgrade but in reality I downgraded when I bought the NEW Garmin.

A well made product. Setup and storing addresses could be a bit easier as no battery backup requires it all to be done in vehicle. A bit of an annoyance, but that's the only issue.
The price was great, and it works well.
Particularly like the added features that Pop up', giving hotels and food vendors at each exit.
A recommended product. Best Buy assistant was, as always, knowledgeable and honest in his replies to our questions. Love the service, and the patience.

Good, but not great.

I really like this GPS. The only thing that would be better is a Google GPS. I do wish that the Bluetooth could connect to my car so I could hear the voice output through the car speakers. I recommend this version if you don't have a Bluetooth system in your car, otherwise get the non Bluetooth version and save some cash.

This GPS has been great expecially since iv had to start traveling for work Has been accurate the sound is clear and the lane guidance is a plus and having lifetime traffic and maps is a must paying 50+ more a year to update maps can add up if you don't have lifetime. The traffic though must be connected to Bluetooth to your phone to work. The suction for the window holds the GPS well unlike the old ones we're u had to mount it to a disk on your dash. Make sure you charge it in your car first I connected it to my computer and it wouldn't come on so I thought my unit was defective but that was not the case I have no complaints so far

The driving directions were great.

This unit worked as expected and kept us informed on our 1800 mile vacation. We traveled around the Great Lakes and it worked in the US and into Canada.
