Best device out there
Posted by: gadgetman01 from: St. Joe, MI on
I have tried almost every device out there, devices from Polar, Fitbit, Motorola, Samsung, Misfit, Basis, Microsoft and other Garmin devices. This one out does them all in almost every area. Some of the other devices may do a few things as well as the Fenix 3 but this devices does everything well not just a few things like the others.
I put off buying this one because of the price, and tried to get by with using cheaper devices and always thinking I wish this one did this or why doesn't this work right. I even went so far as to have a device on each wrist to try to get everything I wanted.
After trying the others I finally decided to take the plunge and spend the money on the Fenix 3 HR and wow am I glad I did. You don't have to be a fitness nut to enjoy this watch, it looks great and functions flawlessly. I am in my late 50's so my heavy workout days are behind me but I still love all the things this watch does even if I don't use them all. If you are a fitness nut this thing does it all. Might feel a little big at first but you get used to it and the bezel makes it look like a nice watch not just a fitness device.
Does fitness better than anything out there, very reliable and accurate.
Tons of features that will keep you interested in the watch instead of getting bored with.
Looks great and built tough.
HRM is very good for normal activiities and also will pair with an external ANT+ HRM for very active weight training sessions.
Wish the phone app was a little better, not quite as good as some of the others but it is getting better as they continuously make improvements.
Display is not super bright indoors but it is fine, outdoors this thing is ridiculously easy to see, amazing.
If you can afford it don't waste time with the others, get this one. I tried the Garmin Forerunner 235, Vivoactive HR and other Vivo products and they were okay but felt like a plastic toy compared to this. If you find yourself looking at a device thinking well I will give it a try even if it doesn't have everything you think you want, I should be able to get by. Don't get by just get this one.

Best of both worlds

Market has been flooded by smart watches. These devices are being pushed by the large marketing based companies such as Apple. The garmin fenix 3 is the hidden gem. Perfect middle ground for those people that are not early adopters of smart watches but do want some more capability on there wrist. Co-workers have apple products and they are always asking about my fenix. Classe looking and unique platform. Certainly, Geared towards health and wellness. However this watch offers the core smart watch functionalities: Calendar alerts and texting notifications. Outdoors people will not be disappointed. Product is rugged and can survive in the elements. Water proof, sapphire glass is strong and band is comfortable. Battery life is untouchable compared to other wearables. Easily get more then a week from 1 charge and that's with moderate use of GPS features, notifications and sensors. Screen is great in regardless of environment.
The drawbacks are the size. Really not an issue for me because if you want this much technology on your wrist then something needs to give. There is an Issue if you want to wear the watch to work. Watch does not fit under the cuffs of most dress shirts. I also do not like that the watch face is flush with the bezel. Has not created any problems for me this far, but it is easy to hit the watch face on surfaces during course of the day.
App is also easy to use and intuitive

One word... Amazing!

I have tried many products in the "wearable" category and this one takes the cake! Accurate, easy to use (once you get used to using buttons rather than touch screen). Battery life is incredible (over a week). I've already had one colleague purchase it from my recommendation and he's thrilled! Top it all off it's really waterproof! The Chrystal is very durable as well!

BEST WATCH I HAVE EVER OWNED
Posted by: AndyM from: on
As I mentioned before, this is by far the best watch that I have ever owned. I served 14 great years in the army and depended deeply on my watches. I have owned Classic Casio’s, G-Shock, Pathfinder, SUUNTO, and Freestyle. I recently received this watch as my anniversary gift and I have been absorbed in it every day. Yes you can get an app for a cell phone but there is nothing like leaving your phone in your pocket and doing it all on your wrist, especially when working out. 20 thumbs up for this watch, cannot say it enough I LOVE THIS WATCH.

Great sport watch, but...
Posted by: Dot41 from: on
This watch was great for keeping track of my data during lots of different activities, but mediocre for daily activity tracking. You can look up lots of data on the computer app, but less is available on the phone app and on the watch itself.
As a petite person, the watch itself is quite large on my wrist and I am going to need to get a different watchband to get it to fit well.

The next great Fitness Watch
Posted by: JohnnyOne from: New York, NY on
Having worn high end watches for as long as I can remember I could never find a fitness watch that would suit my fancy around the workplace. I would use my Samsung Gear during a workout and take it off as soon as I was done. The new Garmin Penix 3 HR may be the watch to solve my dilema.
There are many good reviews out there, check out DCRainmaker for a very indepth review. I'm about to give a most simple one, from me, a multi sport wannabe athlete who while in pretty decent shape, still could shed a pound or two. I am an avid cyclist, runner, cross fit and yoga guy. I don't swim of golf (which watch has features for) so I won't comment on that. Hopefully that covers it and here goes:
I was choosing between Garmin Penix 3 HR and Forerunner 235. Both watches are in high demand now (March 2016) and after reading the review from DCRainmaker (not a plug btw) I opted for the Penix at $600 (vs $325). For me, money isn't an issue when it comes to my gadgets. I care more about performance. I had previously used a Samsung Gear Fit for my wrist and a Garmin Edge on my bicycle. Since I started running more last year I felt the need to go with a more fitness oriented watch. Important to me was a GPS, Smart watch technology, heart rate monitoring and it's ease of connecting to a 3rd party app, particularly Strava. From that perspective the Penix 3 HR covers it all.
PROS: Attractive enough to wear as a daily watch...Garmin GPS accuracy...Phone notifications...No chest strap needed for HR...Syncs with Stava...Long Battery Life...Can input non movement workouts like yoga and crossfit
CONS: Wish it were brighter. Once nightfall hits, it becomes difficult to see the time and/or notifications without having to push the light button.
Overall after a week of wearing it, I've been impressed. So much so I rarely take it off. I even wear it to monitor my sleep. Hmmm, anyone interested in a like new Hublot?

Good looking outdoor tool
Posted by: Soup from: on
Fenix 3hr is a rugged outdoor watch that is pretty accurate. I've used it for skiing, running, sprint training and hiking and it does a pretty good job of giving you a snapshot of the event.
Sometimes speeds or GPS are wildly inaccurate, but most of the time it seems decent. Wrist based HR isn't as accurate as chest strap. I turned off smart notifications as I mostly find them annoying and too hard to see at a glance while driving. Watch looks good and can be worn on all occasions.

Awesome Fitness Watch!
Posted by: bluedevil03 from: on
This is my first Garmin wearable and I must say it tremendously better than most of its competitors, I have had the wath for ovER a monto now. The wrist HR feature is the most accurate I've seen and the features for outdoor exercise and sports are great. The apps on the IQ connect are good, but wish there were more exercise apps when using for indoor exercise: elliptical training or high intensity xfit workouts. Unfortunately, the wrist HR monitor is a bit inaccurate with high intensity training due to movements and sweat, so if you are going to use the watch also for those type training workouts I would recommend buying the HRM bundle with the chest strap...Also I wish there was an internal storage for downloading music onto the watch...Other than those things it's an excellent watch, hopefully Garmin will continue to provide updates which cover some of these issues.

Best watch ever!!!
Posted by: dindin99 from: on
Had the Garmin 405CX for about 5yrs. Been looking around for a new one that I can swim with and has the heart rate monitor within the watch. The bonus of all the other features - sleep monitor, calorie/food tracker, steps counter, leader boards, custom faces, etc., etc., etc., too many to name. Best of all awesome battery life. All in all - best watch ever. It never comes off my wrist!!!

I love this watch. My wife surprised me with it and I have not stopped wearing it. It is on the bigger side but not heavy and the battery lasts forever. I only charged it the first day and have had it for a week already and it is still at 60% battery life. Customizing it with the Garmin app was a learning curve but it integrates with UA new app and Strava. Beyond excited to see this thing help me with my fitness goals. The smart watch notifications are great too.
