Better options out there

Living in Colorado inside humidity is a major problem in the winter time, I have used numerous humidifiers over the past 10 years and usually expect to get 2-3 years of use out of them. The Honeywell QuietCare UV Tower lasted about 3 weeks in our house before being returned. We had this unit running in our family/great room area which is about 800sqft.
Quiet is a flat out lie, it is very loud. On the lowest fan setting you can hear it running throughout a 2500sqft house.
Filters need to be replaced every 4 weeks or less because of poor design where the fan doesn't shut off and dries out the filter until it is so brittle that it cracks apart. We have used other Honeywell products in the past and typically get a full winter season out of a filter.
Does not shut off automatically when it runs out of water, fan will just keep running; wasting power, making noise. and blowing cold (low-ground height) air which makes the entire room feel cold.
Water tank design is bad, it is very awkward to refill the tank and install it back in the tower. The mouth of the tank sits on the side of the filter where the filter is unnaturally bent to fit. This causes the mouth of the tank to hit the filter (see brittle comment) which effectively breaks the filter when it is dry.

I bought this unit the day after Christmas. I was tired of my nose being blocked up and not being able to sleep and hearing my wife snore like a sick cow. The first night we all ( my dogs also were not sleeping well) slept very well with out having dry noses and NO snoring from wife YIPPPIE! I have read other reviews and all i can say is not one humidifer is compeletly quiet. Also; you have to learn how to use the machine. Do not keep it at 55% constant. You have to adjust according to your outside temp. This also saves wear on the filter since it does clean the air. Also; saves wear on the machine itself and your electric bill. I keep it between my living room and bedroom and it has worked very well. I love the quality of the machine. I just wish they would sell the original filters in the store. There is a comprable one out there but, not as well built as the original. Hope this helps anyone intrested in the machine yes I would recomend it to anyone.

Not a long term buy..

Found this product listed as I was searching for a replacement. This was my 3rd humidifier in 5 years, and this one lasted 2 years and 1 month.
Good: The large reservoir was nice as it would last a full 24 hours on the highest setting. That was very good for our sinus issues and dry air.
For humidifiers, I thought this model sounded quiet compared to others I've had.
Bad: Impossible to clean - there is no way to clean the blades of the impeller fan without completely disassembling the entire unit all the way down to the wiring harness(20 screws later). 1-2 Hour job.
The air is pushed down towards the floor, which I thought was not very smart.
The filters are made in small quantities, are expensive to replace, last about 6-8 weeks max, and are hard to find.
While the reservoir was nice that it was large, good luck trying to fill it anywhere but a deep kitchen sink with a tall goose neck faucet. Impossible to fill in any normal bathroom sink as all of the water spills out when you try to upright it.
While the motor itself was nice, quiet and held up for a little over 2 years, the bearings on the impeller fan did not. Ended up sqeaking badly as it was running, took it apart and found the bearings had got very very hot. It went in the garbage at that point. Looking for something more heavy duty.

Best for the Money Considering

Last winter I went on a search to find the best humidifier for the price. By "best" I was looking for a big tank (for less refills) and quietness. I purchased about 6 humidifyers from a variety of stores like Best Buy, Target, Kmart, Walmart. I would test two at a time at different locations in my bedroom.
It came down to a showdown between two - they were both performing very similarly as far as noise, tank capacity, etc. All of the better ones had that annoying loud gurgle noise as the water refilled.
A year later am I happy with this choice? I think it's the best option for price. I put the unit in a closet far from my bed so I can no longer here the water gurgling issue. Replacing the filters in a pain, but all of the other ones had filters as well (you can buy them cheap I think on Amazon). It still works.
So that's that - humidifiers seem to have issues by default, and this seems to be the one with less issues.

Must Buy for Allergies/Sinus Relief
Posted by: SimpleAndTrue from: on
I purchased the Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier HCM-315T a week ago. This product worked as stated. No more nose bleeds or Stuffy Head. Noise level is not bad at all. Does cut on and off when it senses the humidity has reached the setting you set. Water Level last adequate time, for the Level of humidity you set it for. We have our set on the 4th level and fill it every other day. The only Cons I have for this product is *No humidity digital readout so you have to purchase your own device for that and * You have to remove the container and fill from the bottom. Other than that, I LOVE this and it works like a charm!

Know Your Needs

This unit works great. A few thoughts though. This will not leave a pool of water around the humidifier. You cannot see anything coming out of it. It works by evaporating the water off of the filter into the air using a fan. Other types use other methods and they tend to leave everything around the unit damp or even wet. This one does not. But because of that, there is a louder fan noise than mist-type units. We like the built-in humudistat feature and when the motor got really loud on the last one we had, they replaced the entire unit for free. We have two of these and we like them both very much.

Our second one and it works great just like the first one. Not sure why people complain about the noise level, it's a fan with 3 speeds. Great for sleeping with the fan on low and generates the perfect humidity. Our new model has the LED control indicator lights which are a little too bright at night in the bedroom, but easily solved with a little black tape.

I was very happy with this humidifier for the first three weeks. But now it doesn't shut off. It will continue to run even when the humidity is much higher than the setting. I've even tried setting it on the lowest setting and it still doesn't shut off. It does work well to humidify my apartment, but part of the reason I decided to pay the higher price for this unit was for the auto shut-off. In this case, you might NOT get what you pay for. I didn't.

Great multi-room humidifier.
Posted by: Didymus from: Plano, TX on
This is a great multi-room humidifier. If needed, it can put out several gallons of water a day. It can be set to be fully automatic so that it comes on when the humidity drops below the selected preset level thus giving the user control over the humidity level in the surrounding area. During periods of low humidity may require refilling with water more than once per day. Does nor require frequent cleaning.

Best humidifier out there
Posted by: talktorobert from: Boston, MA on
We had several weeks of ongoing dry skin, dry mouth and itchiness. Thankfully, Honeywell came to the rescue. I would recommend the 3 gallon because the water tank lasts for 2 days and on the constant setting.
There is a small amount of light that is emitted, but can be easily covered with dark tape - a heads up to those who like dark bedrooms.
Also, the noise from the humidifier is similar to an air conditioner - a heads up to those who like quiet bedrooms.
