Exactly What Was Wanted

This is a basic, easy to use DVD player with no frills, bells, or whistles. Easy to install, works well., and has sufficiently basic connections that you don't need a brand new TV. Only thing I would it to have that it doesn't is wifi access to get Netflix, etc., but you cannot expect that for this price. A good buy.

Good basic DVD player
Posted by: goodsport60 from: South Florida on
This is a good basic DVD player, but it has one shortcoming that I'm finding annoying. There is no display of time elapsed or current track during movie play. The DVD player shuts itself off fairly quickly when you pause it, so you may lose your place in the movie when you try to resume playing it. Some movies will automatically restart at the point where you paused, but others just go back to the beginning. If you tend to watch things from beginning to end without stopping, this player is fine, but if you are prone to interruptions, consider getting a more full-featured player.

Plays discs well, seems built good

I had a Magnavox DVD Player that was manufactured in 2005 and it finally went out after all these years! Pretty good run. But I did not have the $$$$ to spend on a new unit. Picked this up at Best Buy and brought it home for less then $30 on sale. Was easy to hookup and worked right away. I loved the fact that the DVD Player had included a battery with the remote. The unit had no A/V Cables to hook up to the TV but if you are replacing your DVD player that broke with the new one such as this unit you can use the old cables.
I'm not ready for HD or Bluray yet and have a 4X3 CRT that still works so it works well for my usage.
Here is a hint when you first set it up. If you are hooking this up into a flat screen TV. The unit is already configured by default to look optimal on the screen at 16x9
If you are on a CRT TV you will want to go to the setup button on the remote and change the TV Type to 4x3 letterbox. If you don't do this , some movies will look cutoff.
I know Blu Ray is slowly becoming shelved in favor of HD Streaming Movies and with DVD Movies you can only get them these days by buying combo packs. but if your old school like me, and treasure your movies, you will want to get this DVD Player and continue watching them. If you have kids and they have their own TVs its a great buy and while the product appearance is not fancy it does what its supposed to at a price that won't break your pocketbook.

I purchased this for my mother who is elderly and wanted a simple DVD player that will play movies and without all the bells and whistles. This is perfect for her, it's a good player and the remote is easy for her to understand

Good, inexpensive DVD player
Posted by: willyam from: Toledo, OH on
My wife needed a DVD player to go along with her Insignia TV. She only needed it for shows and workouts during exercising. So far, the DVD player has worked very well. It has an HDMI port in the back to hook up conveniently to the TV. It is fairly simple to operate and I needed no reference to the instruction manual when setting it up.

Great, very basic but does what it is suppose to without any problems. I use it for cartoon movies. It does not have hdmi hook ups so if you are looking for the best picture spend a little more but great for children's movies

Lacks Some Basic Features
Posted by: Chuck from: on
I was looking for an inexpensive DVD player that could play DVD disks that have been recorded at various speeds. Unfortunately, this DVD player is not up to the challenge. When playing DVDs that were recorded at low speeds, the video displayed on the television screen jerked/flickered when there was movement in the scene. In addition, I was disappointed that the player could not remember where I stopped. I frequently don't get a chance to watch an entire DVD in one sitting. Thus, it's important for the player to remember where I stopped watching. Unfortunately, when I turned the player back on, it started the DVD from the beginning of the disk. I have returned this player to the store.

We were looking to purchase a lower priced DVD player to put in our home gym. This DVD player has done well so far, and we have not had any issues. The player is easy to use and install.

basic DVD player; no 'smart' features
Posted by: belairtrappist01 from: Bel Air, MD on
If you're just looking for a basic DVD player with NO internet features and NO BluRay capability, you can't beat this at the price point. To be honest, I didn't even know they still made plain DVD players but a family member just needed something basic to hook up to a TV and did not want anything too fancy or complicated to operate.
