Better than I expected

My wife wanted to get a Roomba. I wanted to get rid of the dog hair in our rescue facility...uh....house. Four big dogs! I did not expect Roomba to make much of a dent but I've been happily surprised. No, it doesn't get everything. Yes, I still have to spot clean. However, cleaning is now manageable in our home instead of out of control. Set your expectations. Plan to empty Roomba daily and replace the filter frequently. You'll also need to take the rollers out and get hair, etc. off of them. This takes seconds and produces surprisingly little dust. This product is expensive. Too expensive? Depends on your budget. You'll still have to clean, but far less than without it. Hope this helped.

I absolutely love the brushless rollers!

For people who have never owned a robotic vacuum I need to break it to you - you still need to manually vacuum. These things are for helping keep the floor cleaner between manual cleanings.
That being said - the 880 (and 870) models are the bomb! I wanted the 870 because they leave out the remote, give you a generation older wall units, and charge you $100 less. I don't care how cool the functions of the latest "lighthouse" wall unit is - I've owned wall units for 10 years and just don't want to use them.
Ten years with a pair of Roomba Discovery models with the programable/scheduler upgrades, and a Red before that means I know what to expect from a robotic vacuum. This thing picks up more that the Discovery models ever did - and it actually seems to learn the room rather than the old pattern of spiral out, find the wall, make some corners and then strike out across the room and repeat...
Where this thing is the bomb over all other Roomba's I've ever seen is in that the rollers don't have brushes and don't get clogged with hair and debris. It will still get lost from the charging station at the end of a cleaning and need to be manually put back on it (hey - you need to pick it up and empty the bin anyway) - but I haven't been able to make it get the robotic mad cow disease that every other unit I've ever seen gets when the brushes get clogged and start messing with the sensors. I'm sure I'll have to actually clean the unit eventually - but running side by side with one of my beloved it Discovery models through an obstacle course of dirt, dog hair, thread, and paper punched holes - this thing ate it all up and didn't get anything in the rollers or the works. It was like comparing a 2 year old and a 12 year old eating pie.
I left off a star from features because I didn't want another remote or any more walls - and I don't like paying for things that I don't want.

best vacuum I ever had

I press the button to start it each day as I leave for work and when I come home from work the floors are cleaned. It is the best Christmas present I gave myself.

Should Have Bought One Sooner

I was very skeptical of how well robot vacuums would clean. If it not for my wife who persuaded me in buying this little appliance, I probably would never have found out. This little thing vacuums very well. It is as if someone manually vacuumed my carpet. No bags to mess with; when it's full, just pull the back and throw away the dirt. The unit requires little maintenance as well. My only con is that it does not seem to vacuum in all areas unless the space is opened up. It will try to find these little areas by bumping into things but if it doesn't find the space to go to, it will not go there to clean. Easily fixed by turning off the robot and place it on the area you want to clean.

Best Roomba Yet
Posted by: JensenV from: Dover, DE on
We've owned previous Roombas since the 4200 series and this one is by far the best at 1) picking up all kinds of dirt and pet fur; 2) transitioning successfully from carpet to slate or from slate (or tile) to area rug or from hardwood to area rug, etc. 3) the longest lasting battery.
iRobot completely updated how Roomba picks up the dirt and debris with this model and eliminated all of the brushes that used to do that work, with rubber "fingers".
This generation Roomba can NOW successfully transition across all kinds of flooring without getting caught-up on any type of threshold (high or tall areas) like from slate/tile/hardwood onto an area rug, and does so without stopping and "asking" for help to get up onto the area rug, etc..
This Roomba can NOW pickup ALL of the dirt and debris on ANY of the flooring surfaces within our house. ALL of the previous Roombas with actual brushes would ALWAYS leave dirt and debris (dog fur especially) in clumps on all of the hard flooring surfaces.
Speaking of leaving clumps of dog fur behind, this is also the first Roomba that does not leave those dog fur clumps (or any other kinds of dirt clumps) behind when transitioning from hard surface flooring up onto an area rug or down from an area rug back onto hard surface flooring. ALL of the previous Roombas did leave dog fur and other dirt clumps behind when making the up or down flooring transitions.
This is also the first Roomba that is extremely easy to clean when compared to all of the previous Roombas (by FAR!).
For Reference: Dog hair that this Roomba encounters daily is: Short, soft, fine fur from a Rhodesian Ridgeback (AMAZING breed, BTW...) short, "wirery" fur from a Labrador/Chesapeake Retriever mix that even our Dyson Animal isn't thrilled with picking up and this 880 Roomba seems to be just as good as the Dyson Animal at picking up this fur (when our 700 series Roomba was/is terrible at picking up this fur), and a medium-haired American German Shepherd.
We've not experienced any of the issues that others may have experienced to here's to hoping iRobot worked all of those issues out with the models being sold currently.

Nice to have a Maid!

Overall love the unit. Actually after buying one for our downstairs all hardwood and purchased another for our upstairs all hardwood.
I have them scheduled to run every other day. Downstairs runs in the middle of night, upstairs run in the middle of the day.
We have two long hair small dogs and they do their job picking up. The units do require us to make sure we don't have anything that may get tangled off the floor.
One big problem I did have is the legs on our true wood furniture was getting a small nick from the unit circling around it. I corrected by purchasing a felt strip and ran it around the unit.
The unit does need to come current and drop the remote, a wifi application is what 2015 demands. It could alert you of issues, allow you to schedule, etc.

Great for PET HAIR!!!

My wife and I use to come home everyday and spend 30 minutes after work vacuuming the house. Now we come home to a hairless clean home everyday thanks to our Roomba. It has literally changed our lives and given us more free time to spend with our daughter. I recommend this to anyone who struggles keeping a house clean with large dogs.

It is excellent. However, the only thing I do not like is that it bumps loudly into the legs of my new dining table and chairs leaving minor dent marks on the new legs. Now I have to wrap these legs with something for pretection. Hope it can be improved in future.
I do not mind picking up the delicate vases from the floor when it vacuum cleans the floor. I do not care about the banging sound when it hits the baseboard, and I am fine to bring it from one room to the other and from upstairs to downstairs. It does a good job of vacuum cleaning especially the area under the bed. The floor and carpet are very clean, and the air
is fresh. It is a great help to me.
