Really enjoyed this. I’ve never played the game, I bought this as a blind buy. Really good animation and the 4K looks fantastic.

So I had read the rotten tomatoes reviews on this movie, and was *very* cautions about buying it. I received a gift card for the holidays, and since the movie was priced at around 15$ I basically had no reason not to buy it, aside from the poor reviews. At such a low price, I went ahead, and got the movie, and I am very much glad I did. I will admit, I wouldnt say this is the best movie of all time, but it certainly places at quite the high rank. I must say the rotten tomatoes reviews are horribly written. I have no clue how anyone could be confused by this movie or feel it is laden with "incoherent" story points, it didnt leave me "scratching my head" nor did my "eyes cross." The movie made perfect sense, was easy to follow, and had a gripping story. As you watch the movie you can see the emotion in the characters faces, and feel their burdens. The story is filled with fantastic internal, and "monarchist" conflicts. Not only are the visual effects remarkably beautiful, the action, very entertaining, and the story gripping and engaging, but the world with which all of these events take place, is quite stunning and filled with a unique mysterious familiarity. Magic, and Kingship, landing right in a massive modern city! I personally played the video game Final Fantasy XV before watching this movie, and in my own opinion, feel that is the ideal sequence I would suggest experiencing these wonderful pieces of entertainment. (Game first, then movie.) I highly suggest Kingsglaive to anyone, as well as Final Fantasy XV. Especially if you own a PS4, even if you dont, I highly doubt you could be disappointed! Both are a grand adventure, of goodness, choosing the right thing, and staying true to yourself.

It's difficult to "review" a movie like Kingsglaive because it doesn't exist in a void. Is Square-Enix's latest film a great movie in-and-of itself? Not especially. The plot can be difficult to follow. The massive action sequences overshadows any attempts at storytelling. The main character lacks complexity, so it's difficult to care about him or his fate. With those negative points made, it must be said that Kingsglaive is ultimately a success. When you boil the movie down, it has 2 reasons for existing: 1) create hype for the proper Final Fantasy XV game, and 2) establish lore and backstory that will further be explored in the Final Fantasy XV game. Kingsglaive achieves these goals with aplomb. The film introduces characters and facts about the world in such a way that creates more questions and expectations than answers - and the answers will likely arrive with the game in November. Use of magic in this setting is tied to the line of kings . . . but how? why? and how does it all mesh with the fate of the world? Its inklings of deeper lore like this that kept me glued to the screen despite the film's overall flaws. It's another fun treat to play "spot the reference" if you're an oldshool Final Fantasy fan. Monsters, classic summons, subtle nods in armor and machine designs. This movie is filled with bits and bobs cobbled together from the history of the series, and it's a delight to see.
