Great coffee maker for the 1 a day quick brew.

Having come from a $29 coffee maker with a timer that took way to long to brew, I was a bit concerned that this coffee maker, without a timer, would leave me standing and waiting for coffee. This was not the case! A 16 oz cup of coffee takes about 2 minutes to brew and after learning how much coffee to use, makes a great cup of coffee.
It is easy to fill the water each night and add coffee to the filter. I do have to pull the coffee maker out from under the cabinet for two reasons during this process. You add coffee by swinging the tray from right to left. I have a cabinet to the left so it would not open if I did not pull the coffee maker out on the counter further. Also, when I brew in the morning, there is a vent on the top rear of the coffee maker. Steam comes out of that and would saturate the bottom of the kitchen cabinet, which over time I could see being a problem. Pulling the coffee maker out from under the cupboard for brewing resolves both of these issues.
Previous cheap coffee makers would last about a year in our house. I am hoping this one last much longer.

I have had this machine for several months now and use it on a daily basis. I confess I picked it based mostly on its good looks. It is almost 15" tall but fits under my kitchen cabinets, and it is gorgeous sitting on the countertop. You do have to pull it out from under the cabinets to use it because it vents steam out the top as it brews. Also the water gets loaded into the very top and I use the mug to transport the water; it pours very nicely out of the mug. However, you can remove the entire water tank (the black portion on top) by its carrying handle and take it over to the sink to put the water in, if you like. The basket swings out to the left smoothly and has a satisfying click when you move it back into place. It has two pieces, the filter and a holder, that come out for cleaning. They are cone shaped, so you can't set them on the counter to fill with coffee; it has to be in the machine or held in your hand. The travel mug that it comes with is beautiful and I like the top. It just pulls off instead of twisting but it seems to stay on securely. You can brew the coffee with the lid on or off, but it will stay warm longer with the lid on. This machine has no warming plate, so once you brew the coffee, it will only stay as warm as the mug can keep it. If I leave the lid on, I find that a half hour later it is still plenty hot. The lid is not leak proof but does a pretty good job. The opening for drinking out of is comfortable and doesn't cause me any problems with spills as I drink. It takes about 3 minutes for the coffee to brew.
I have a few complaints. One is that none of my other travel mugs fit in this machine. If I have coffee in the morning and then want more in the afternoon, I have to rinse out the mug and re-use it. Also, the filter does let some grounds through, and I end up with my last sip of coffee being sludge. I think you could use a paper filter if you want to avoid this, but I just don't drink the last sip. Finally, the swing arm that holds the filter baskets does not seem to be removable for cleaning, unless I am missing something. It also beeps once when you turn it on and then three times when it's done brewing. That is nice if you are doing other things and you can hear that your coffee is done, but it seems a bit unnecessary. I sometimes hit the power button by accident as I am pushing it back under my cabinets and then I have to press it again to turn it off and it beeps and beeps at me...
Overall I am pleased with the purchase and the ease of making a mug of coffee to go.

Easy to use

Love my new personal coffeemaker. Easy to use and fill and you can use any size grind, fine or course with the included gold filter. Coffee is hot, but not scolding. The metal taste dissappeared after the 5th use. Have it in my office and hardly takes up space. Love it!

Love this single coffee cup maker. Works fantastic!!!
I only expected it to be made with metal not plastic. Otherwise I would have given five stars. Maybe im asking for to much though. Its was only 79.

Great coffee for a single
Posted by: kgLady from: on
Since my husband passed, I was wasting a lot of coffee or drinking stale coffee so I splurged on the KitchenAid and have been enjoying fresh hot coffee in just minutes any time I want it. It does a good job and the only minor gripe I have is it is difficult to see the water level when you're filling the reservoir but that's a minor inconvenience.

Not so charmed.

It's just alright. I bought it to stop drinking plain coffee out so it does the job, but I'm not thrilled with this purchase. It works as promised but I wonder if the water isn't quite hot enough to brew the coffee at a more desireable temp.

This is my second KitchenAid purchase. I love my new coffee maker. It's stylish, easy to use and I don't have to buy coffee filters anymore.

I used it 2 times!

I used this coffee maker for two days and it worked just fine. I liked it very much. However, on the third day, it steamed, sputtered and quit. Now I need to return it for something else. I was very disappointed.

Great for single user, not for family use
Posted by: SimonSays from: on
This is a great piece of kit for a single user, coffee is nice and warm, but it is not convenient if you need to make coffee for a few people at once. Filter needs to be cleaned in between uses, so brewing coffee for 2-3 people is a lot of work and takes too much time. Otherwise, very happy with it.
