Finally! Maverick on DVD
I remember watching Maverick as a kid and really loving the show. I thought I'd seen most of them growing up, but I went through the entire first season with barely a hint of recognition regarding most of these episodes. The storytelling was superior in these early episodes and it was surprising to see so much attention given to the strategy behind some of the poker games Maverick plays in. I'd say after seeing this first season that the concept actually got watered down as the series progressed. I am only disappointed that the producers of this DVD set weren't able to get James Garner to do an audio commentary -- I would have loved to hear some insight from Maverick himself.

A Classic TV Western
Maverick is a well written, classic TV Western. Combining suspense, humor and irony, James Garner and Jack Kelly played their roles exceptionally well. It's a shame that television no longer creates shows like Maverick, instead opting for the ridiculousness of "Reality TV", which is anything but real.

James Garner at his BEST
What can I say? This is a first class western classic! And it stars James Garner. The most lovable con man you'd ever want to meet. Great entertainment in all it's black-and-white glory. Highly recommended.
