Clean Software, Fast Processor, Great Camera!!!
Posted by: dcorn619 from: on
This device purchase was a labor of a couple of days. It was between the Nexus 5X or 6P, the new GS7's, or this device. My top reasons for ending up with the Moto X is that 1) I Do Not have a true need for a Fingerprint Scanner, 2) it has Water Resistance and Turbo Charging, 3) Marshmallow, 4) EXPANDABLE MEMORY, and 5) Unlocked and very affordable without sacrificing these above mentioned key factors.
The quality of the build is pretty high end, I enjoy the slightly curving form-factor, the speakers can get loud and have great quality, and all-day battery life...based on my mid-to-heavy use.
Hope this helps someone in need of an opinion ;D

I agree with the previous reviewer the phone works on all major US networks including Verizon and Sprint. You are also incorrect on the screen aize, you state 5.5" it is in fact 5.7".

Bestbuy you need to get your facts straight,
Posted by: melp57 from: on
this phone will work on Verizon, and all other major carries. your statement in the specs says it won't. you need to change this. I contacted Moto about your incorrect specs.

Excellent phone, Excellent price
Posted by: ActualDegreeINCompSci from: NY on
Runs Pure Android with added Moto features, such as Moto Voice, Moto Display, Moto Actions.
Chopping motion turns on flashlight. Twisting motion turns on camera.
Screen is excellent. Better and bigger screen (5.7'' Quad HD) than the iPhone 6S Plus (5.5'' HD) while being a much smaller phone overall.
Front facing flash is great for selfies.
Turbo charger is insanely fast and works great.
Both the White and Black backs are a unique texture that provides an awesome grip. The sides are metal, and the power button is textured so you can differentiate it from the volume keys.
This phone is just as fast, and has matching features of phones that cost twice as much.
I switched to this from the Galaxy S6 and am extremely happy with my decision.

Great Device, real gem at this price...
Posted by: turist from: on
truly great device, returned iPhone 6s plus, then picked this moto x up, no regrets. At half the iphone 6s plus price, it includes all the major features, clean of any bloatware, fully unlocked for not only GSM carriers but also CDMA ones as well (Google FI compatible too). I read that T-mobile band 12 will be unlocked via software upload later on along with wifi calling on T-mobile. Fast processor, good battery life, ergonomically easier to handle compared to 6s Plus, Nexus 6 and Note 5 that I tried before . Only two features missing that I can think of are fingerprint scanner and OIS. However fingerprint scanner is not essential as Android Pay can work with pin instead, and the absence of OIS in the camera is easy to live with when you consider the price (Camera is on par with LG G4, iPhone 6s under good light conditions, under dim light conditions I was able to get some pretty good pics as well as some really not so great ones. By the way I was able to get Moto Care directly from Motorola for it, which is great with low deductible and .3 replacements over 2 years. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Great phone for the price
Posted by: Jonnymac from: on
I've read the reviews on this site, Amazon and Android authority. I think overall, especially at this price point, this was the best phone for the price. Some people were crying about the overheating issues, and although it can be a problem, isn't really that big of a deal. I experienced it in the first half hour of use. That was because of all the updates it had to do. After that, I really haven't had an over heating issue. Using Google maps can cause it to heat up. But I don't use maps all day.
The battery has been great. I've read some reviews of people complaining about how it's not as great as it should be. Well, after a full day of normal usage, the battery is at 30% and typically lasts all day for me. The turbo charging is great and in less than an hour can get a full charge.

Better budget phone closer to pure android
Posted by: imkreatyve from: on
If you looking for non nexus budget phone that has closer to pure android, this may be the one. With the exception of couple of exceptionally useful Moto apps there are no other manufacturer bloatware. Phone is smooth in its operations though it is Android. I have iphone also. The screen on Moto looks better than the iPhone in my opinion.
I see back of the phone heating up rather quickly than expected.
Less color options available in Online stores including BestBuy. Moto site has best color options. But I think you can send to motorola once to get colors changed.
This phone gets 4 star instead of 5 because of issue i faced. I opened this phone from its packaging, switched on, used my google account, asked for android update. While update was going on, it ended up in infinite on off loop. Struggled for 2 hours with various fixes provided in online forums before i end up exchanging with new phone at BestBuy. BestBuy is seemless in exchanges and returns unlike other retails.

Solid phablet on a budget
Posted by: dataartist from: on
The wife wanted more screen real estate than the iPhone 5S offered. She loved her iPhone, but was frustrated by the tiny screen.
We thought about the iPhone 6S Plus and the 7S Plus. Looking at the value proposition, she didn't want to pay such an outrageous price for a phone.
Her initial reaction to the Moto X was lukewarm at best. Like anyone else, she didn't enjoy the initial transition from iOS to Android. After a couple of weeks in, she is more than satisfied with her new phone.
Screen is big bright and easy to look at - which was the main point of this exercise. The camera is not quite as good as the iPhone, but close enough. And like every Android device I have ever owned, battery life isn't as well managed as on the iPhone.
We can buy nearly 3 Moto X's for the price of a single big screen iPhone. And, we can add more memory using MicroSD cards to capture more photos and videos without worry.
Minor quibbles aside, we'd buy this phone again over the iPhone.

They fixed everything I disliked on the 1st gen
Posted by: Rick from: on
I upgraded from a first gen Moto X phone, which I really liked in the first place, to this. In short they fixed everything I disliked about the first gen phone. This includes:
- Front facing speakers which get decently loud
- Better camera, especially in low light
- Longer battery life
- Expandable storage
On the old one the speaker was in the back which made it impossible to show someone a video in even a modestly loud restaurant and expect them to hear it. The new one has two stereo front facing speakers on the front, this fixes the problem.
The camera on this works very well in low light conditions and takes excellent pictures in even low light with the flash off or on. This was definitely the tipping point in which I decide a separate camera is entirely pointless. It also will capture 4k video, which I have no tried yet because I do not have anything to display it on and it also gives a warning when you try and select that mode that it cannot display 4k video in the galley and it also takes up a lot of storage space.
The battery life on this phone is ridiculously long. On my old, admittedly aged phone, I was ending the day dead, with this one I will have in excess of 50% left at days end with modest use. If I use the heck out of it I'll still end the day with 30% so a guy could still go out at night and not worry about the battery running out. The other great feature is the turbo charging, the thing charges at 25 watts! 10-15 minutes on the charger gets you 20% or so more charge so even if you're low you can plug in while you prepare and still go out for the evening and not worry about not being able to dial up an Uber.
I recently took a three and a half hour flight with this phone and I loaded some movies on to it. I put the phone on airplane mode with 90% battery showing and once airborne proceeded to watch a two hour 20 minute long movie, I did dim the screen only because it was too bright otherwise. I then listened to about an hour of music before landing. I still had 70% battery left when I took it out of airplane mode, navigate to the hotel and still went out for dinner that night all on one charge.
And then there's the fact that this phone has a micro SD card slot also so you can expand the storage.
And the other big selling point is the almost pure Android software. Upon turning the phone on it very quickly downloaded the Marshmallow update that had been pushed to it, and shortly there after another update with bug fixes. The UI is very smooth with very little twitching only when heavy apps are running. And there is a lot to like in terms of little features that you'd never think about until you use them. For example, I drop a call and call the person back while they're also calling me back at the same time. It will automatically hang up my call and ring, gently, in my ear as to not have both of us reach the others voice mail immediately.
Overall very solid phone and it fits in my hand fairly well despite it's gargantuan size. There is a distinct lack of cases available for this phone. I do with there was an Otter box commuter available for it, which is what I had on my old phone, but they only make the very bulky defender. I ended up with an off brand case which fits a bit loose. On the old Moto X I had broken the screen with a modest drop (no case at the time) so I am afraid this one is about as delicate so I'm not taking any chances. Motorola does have their indestructible screen phone similar to the Moto X Pure, but it's only available through Verizon with all their bloat ware installed. I do wish this was available on an unlocked platform because if it was I would have gone that route instead.
