  • General
    • Product Name: D3100 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens
    • Brand: Nikon
    • Model Number: 25486
    • Color: Red
    • Digital Camera Type: DSLR Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 4608 x 3072 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: None (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Image File Format(s): H.264, JPEG, MPEG-4, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/4000 to 30 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Panorama Mode: false
    • Scene Modes: Portrait, landscape, child, sports and more (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, incadescent, fluorescent, direct sunlight, flash, cloudy, shade, present manual (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Auto, Cancel, Fill-in, Red-eye reduction (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
  • Compatibility
    • Memory Card Compatibility: Secure Digital, microSDHC, microSDXC (The type of memory card(s) recommended for use with the product.)
  • Features
    • Face Detection: true (A function that automatically detects human faces and then sets focus and appropriate exposure to capture them.)
    • Integrated GPS: No
  • Connectivity
    • PictBridge Enabled: true (PictBridge allows digital cameras, camcorders and other image capture devices to connect and print directly to photo printers and other output devices without using a computer.)
  • Included
    • Batteries Included: true (Indicates whether the product comes with the required batteries for its operation.)
  • Dimensions
    • Product Height: 4.9 inches (The out of box height of the item. Height is measured as the vertical distance from the bottom of the item to the top as it would be primarily used or placed.)

Q: what is the difference between the D3100 and the D3000?

A: The D3100 has live view. The D3000 does not. With the D3000 or D5000 you must view video through the small view finder window where as with the D3100 you can view it on the 3in screen.

Q: What are differences between the D3100 and D5000 besides megapixals? Does one perform better than the other?

A: The D3100 has more movie options than the D5000, 1920 x 1080 (24p) for the D3100 vs 1,280 x 720/24 fps for the D5000. The D3100 has a 3" LCD screen vs the 2.7" screen of the D5000. The D3100 is also compatible with SDXC and SDHC memory cards, the D5000 only uses SDHC.

Q: No internal memory? No memory card included?

A: Yes, you need to purchase a memory card.

Q: Those it have a build in flash?

A: Yes, it DOES have a built-in flash.

Q: Does this camera have in-editing features? Also, what are the color options when taking a picture?

A: Yes. There is an in-camera editing program. You can quickly change the color balance (make it cooler or warmer) or change the color scheme (black and white, sepia). The in-camera editing program is very useful, and when you edit the picture, the camera saves both copies so you can decide once their on your computer which one you like better.

Q: Can you buy auto focus lenses

A: Cameras have either auto focus motor built into the camera body itself or utilize the one built into the lens. D3100 is the latter. Thus, the lens that will work on D3100 is identified as AF-S (at least Nikkor lenses) in the model number. If it is only AF or AF G (this is old series) then it won't auto focus on D3100; you have to manually focus.

Q: How do you charge the battery?

A: Remove the battery and use the wall charger.

Q: How many minutes of video will it take?

A: Movie Maximum recording time 10 min.
