Great unit for the task required
I purchased this because the ice maker in my refrigerator was malfunctioning and I did not want to continue to buy ice or pay for the repair. This seemed like a cheaper and easier alternative. Upon receipt of the ice maker, I let the unit sit 24 hours upright prior to plugging it in. I was able to start getting ice right way. After a few uses, I realized that ice would continue to be made even without the basket in place and unit would hold much more ice this way. This is a great alternative if you want more ice for an event than fits in the small basket. Within just a few hours, you can have several pounds of ice if you don't want to purchase it at the store. $2.50 for 10 pounds of frozen water seems kind of high. While the machine is noisy as most machines are, I do not think it is overly loud or distracting.

Looks good works great!
I waited a while to do this review, because usually if you have issues with something, it's not right away. This was a gift for the wife so it had to match the kitchen. The only thing that is a down side is that does make noise when dropping the ice cubes, but that's pretty normal.
