Please bear with the history lesson, but it must begin here to appreciate where I am coming from. I began working at an audio store in Ft. Pierce, Fl in the late 70's. I have owned a variety of speakers, such as Bose 901's, Quisonic Arrays, Polk 12's, Accoustat Monitors, DCM Time Windows, etc. A classic "audiophile", I had the same mindset of most, that what I owned must sound great (a certain "Wow" factor isn't bad, either), and had to be unique. After all, if everyone else had it, we might not be so "special" (or so we think). Our store sold Polk Audio, a company that designed and manufactured great speakers at an affordable price... and therein lies the issue. Fellow audiophiles would come in and listen to a pair of Polk speakers, but would balk at purchasing them simply because they were affordable (this is the Truth, the Almighty bearing me witness). In other words, the guy next door could own the same speakers, which is unacceptable. After all, we "audiophiles" are always known for having something nobody else owns.
Before I get to the issue at hand, I met Matthew Polk and Sandy Gross (two of the three partners that founded Polk Audio) years ago. Great guys who wanted to build great sounding speakers for the average Joe. Their incursion into the world of audio certainly shook things up, since their monitor series sounded great and were comparible to competition costing a small fortune.
So, now the review (drum roll, please). First, I left the esoteric world of audio years ago, so for a while at least, an in-box theater package suited my needs. My previous purchase was a complete Onkyo system (good receiver, not-so-good speakers), which did the trick for a while. Unfortunately, like the previous systems, there was something missing. So after years of mediocrity, I decided to go the expensive route (boy, was I in for a surprise). I began building the current setup by purchasing a Polk sub woofer. Next, I investigated speakers, Polk speakers in particular (but not exclusively, and found the T-series (the prices are ridiculously low). Knowing the folks at Polk wouldn't put their name on a pathetic sounding speaker system, I purchased the T-50's for the front, a T-30 for the center, and the T-15's for the rear channels. Be advised, our Best Buy has no current Sound Room, but I have listened to side-by-side comparisons in other cities and stores (nothing sounds the same vs one's own home) Primarily, I bought all of these off of Polk's reputation, although the independent reviews were persuasive as well. Once all the components were in place, I put in the "Green Lantern" Blu ray disc, and was impressed by the entire experience.
I will forgo the overview of highs, lows, imaging, clarity, and the like... most might find it boring. It did seem as though I was in the middle of the action the entire time. However, the summation is thus: Do not worry about the price, or someone else's critique which, believe it or not, is usually based on the notion that a system must cost a fortune to grace their living room. I mean, certainly there are better, more expensive set-ups out there... RIGHT? Perhaps, but one should remember, none of us have the exact same hearing, or the same tastes. If you are determined to spend more money, then by all means, have a blast. Before you do, trust me... these are great speakers for the price... but it might help in your decision if I simply say, these are great speakers, PERIOD!

Great POLK speakers for the price.
Posted by: 1983rocked from: on
These are great POLK speakers for the price and I even picked them up on sale. I don't need deep overpowering bass and these have been great for my taste in music and movies. They have nice tight but not to booming bass. I like a balanced mix of highs, midrange, and punchy bass so the music sounds realistic. I listed to CD's, vinyl records, DVD’s, AM/FM radio, and they sound great. They are hooked up to a receiver that puts out 100w per channel so I cannot push them all the way, but I don’t need to. They are as loud as I need them to be, loud enough to make the neighbors mad, they don’t take up much space, and look like a much more expensive speaker.
Always wanted POLK speakers since the 1980’s but they were way out of my price range. For an affordable way to jam out, with a balanced sound, I would recommend these if you like; classic rock, oldies, jazz, blues, classic country, and older pop music. If you want booming bass that is in rap, dance, or hip hop I wound not recommend them unless you buy a sub-woofer. I will probably purchase the T30 POLK center speaker next. If I ever upgrade my speaker system POLK will be top on my list.

Great standing speakers for the money

I bought these speakers to maximize the sound of my Denon receiver. I must say I am very impressed of the audio quality of these speakers, very clear and can reach high levels without distortion.

They sound very good for the price. I was looking for a good entry level tower speaker and was impressed with the sound and bass they give out.

These speakers really changed my home theater set up! I wanted to upgrade my rear speakers and was looking at a set of bookshelves but for the money I bought these and my mind was blown away. Yes they are overkill for what I use them for but they only cost $30 more than the bookshelves I was buying and they would need to be mounted where these were able to be placed on the floor. Very crisp sound coming out of them and play great with music. Nice bass response.

Great speaker for the money.

I purchased two of these speakers for my living room entertainment system. They sounded so great that I purchased 4 more when I put together my home theatre system. I also purchased a Polk center speaker and Polk sub-woofer to complete the system.

Quality sound at an affordable price. Got a pair of these for the fronts, a pair of bookshelfs for the rear, and a center and sub. The clarity and sound blows my old Onkyo out of the water. Great for movie nite and music alike.

Have a pair of these with our Onkyo 7.1 channel surround system and are also paired with the Polk center channel and bookshelf (rear) speakers. Sound amazing for as inexpensive as they are.

Easy to set up and no issues after 1 month. These speakers create solid sound and are exactly what I hoped they were. Definitely recommended.
