Q: what happens when the batterys go dead or your phone goes dead
A: The august smart lock is mounted on the inside of your door. Nothing changes on the outside of your door so you can still use your key to get in. The batteries last about a year.
Q: Is this the newer version (the one that is compatible with Apple HomeKit?
A: No, this is our generation 1 August Smart Lock. The HomeKit lock will be available soon.
A: If you don't have the auto lock feature enabled then you won't need to have your phone on you.
Q: Can you place this lock on the outside of the door and it still function as keyless?
A: Yes but it would a bad idea since you can manually unlock. it would defeat the purpose of the lock.
A: Yes it can be turned and rendered impractical
Q: How many access codes are available?
A: The way this works is that you set up on your phone (1 access code, just for you). Then if you want to allow someone access to enter as much as they want, you enable it from your app on your phone, they then download the app and when they accept the invitation, they are allowed in. You can also allow someone access (say the cleaning crew) for just 1 day... and then they won't have access to open the door any more. Great idea.
A: It does not, I've tried. If you do figure it out, please let me know. Or if they came out with a new one. This specific one does not work like that.
Q: does this lock work with z wave?
A: No, this works with Nest.
