Q: When will Up3 be available for shipping?
A: Regarding the comment suggesting "August 2015," that would most likely be referring to new orders, if that news is indeed accurate—not preorders (for those who have a preorder through Jawbone or Best Buy). I've been in frequent contact with both Jawbone and Best Buy support and have been assured a "January or February" release, at least for initial preorders, which Jawbone have confirmed will be their first fulfillment priority. The CEO of Jawbone reported to Forbes today (1/22) that the delay is due to "sealing problems," which I assume is in regard to their promise for waterproof operation. I plan on sitting tight on my preorder for the time being, as the UP3 is definitely the superior product if they make good on their promises on the product page. However, if it's delayed any further and an update of the Microsoft Band comes out in the meantime, it could be the dealbreaker. Other current generation fitness trackers just dont have any appeal to me.
Q: Quality
A: I'm not sure what failures you are talking about, but I got one for both myself and my wife. We've had no issues with them so far. We've had them for about 3+ weeks now. We are both really happy with them. I love the software features that help track your eating, sleeping, and exercise habits.
Q: does it open up for a display or do you read it only on your iphone
A: You can only read it on your phone.
Q: When will active heart rate be available?
A: Since the latest software update it will now give a heart rate throughout the day or an average. So it's actually a lot better now. Glad this feature was added. Hope this helps.
Q: Does UP3 provide heart rate monitoring in real time
A: Jawbone says that an update for that is coming and will be updated over the air. For now it just gets your resting heart rate.
Q: Is this the updated version that you don't have to tap to put in sleep mode?
A: Yes. The update is in the firmware. When you plig it in, it will go through the firmware update process.
A: It is water resistant. I take mine in the shower, and it's going to be fine in a rain storm, but it isn't recommended for swimming. I personally wouldn't hesitate to take it into the pool for laps, but it's not made to handle the pressures of deeper underwater use.
A: I charged before 1st use but it only took 1hr and lasted 6.5 to 7days before needing another charge. When you open the phone app and sync the device to the app, you will see a red "low battery" sign as the indicator that charge is needed
