Bugs inside my TV! Protection Plan does not cover
Posted by: mrjr101 from: Miami, FL on
I bought the UN65KS9000FXZA model of this same TV 8 months ago. I recently noticed 2 tiny dark spots in the center of screen while i was cleaning the screen. I could not make out what it was because i could not see well from up close. And you can't almost distinguish them from more than 4 feet away. It was inside the panel and I could not remove it. When I called the Geek Squad (I spent $699 on a 5 year protection plan), they found that they were bugs/flies. The tech called the mega center and they told me that they were going to order the part and scheduled a follow up vist. When I called Best Buy to follow up on the status a few days later, it turned out they cancelled the order (without even notifying me) because they say that Best Buy or the manufacturer does not cover insect infestation!! These bugs could have been there ever since I bought the TV and now I'm stuck with a $3199 TV that I purchased 8 months ago. If a bug finds a way to fly inside a panel that is supposed to be sealed then that's a manufacturer problem, not a customer problem. On top of this, while speaking with Geek Squad tech he told me If I thought that "they were stupid", that he's been "a tech for 30 years and he knows this is the customer's fault", and that I "have lost this battle". Shame on Best Buy for employing these douches and losers. Never ever again will I buy something from you.

Why!!! Thin edge lit samsung?
Posted by: Cloud from: Brooklyn on
So i wrote a review on this product and it was removed but i am doing so again because the consumers need to know the truth.
Lets no look at the brand name of this product for a min. I purchased this set last week because the bestbuy associate told me it was the next hest thing to OLED. After buying this set i did a nimber of testing this is nothing close to Oled or great black levels.
The set it self is elegant looking. I cant take that away from samsung, but unfortunately i did not spend almost $4000 to look at the set. Its supposed to have the best looking picture quality, To some it up no it does not. Fo one this set is edge let from the top and bottom of the set also it is extremely thin. With the laws of physics there is no way you can get great black levels with a thin edge lit led tv.
In a dark room this set has alot of blooming and semi light bleed especially id you are watching anything with letter box. At times even with movies that have do not have letter box, a dark scene that randomly has a bright light or bright colors. The bottom/side of the set with the bright scene blooms as if the set trys to turn off one have of the led strips to give you the illusion of deep blacks but creates a washed out black with tones of blooming across that section of the screen. This is horrible lighting, this is no where close to OLED or even sonys new slim backlight drive technology.
So i test a series of movies to make my conclusion on this set before returning it. The first was the dark knight rises. The sense were bane fights the dark knight. The motion is horrendous creating an artificial halo around bane as he moves in the night. Also watching the darklnights hands jitter while the throws punchs, also the ears of the batman while he moves was also horrible. Motion aside in my theater room i was never able to have a moment or deep blacks due to the light blooming through out the set.
The second test was the hobbit Desolation of Smaug, in bright scenes the set looks ok but the battle in the town looks horrible. Due to all of the dark to bright scenes of smags flames made the tv seem as if it was flicker like a strobe light. I have also notice that the colors are too over saturated even for HDR when watching the Martian in 4k hdr. In short the set is extremely fast the new smart remote is great even tho it looks as if samsung stole that design from amazon fire tv. This set is too over priced for it being edge lit. For all who dont understand being edge and achieving a 1000nits of brightness will only destroy the contrast levels and most importantly in a super thin design. The light has to go somewhere.
I returned this set and bought the sony 65x930D. Its not oled but its a way better set. Go to your local bestbuy and have them show you this set before you turn your fanboy light on.

Samsung made the biggest mistake!!!
Posted by: Dubb from: on
I switched from Sony to Samsung with TV's 4 years ago and every year they have continued to impress me... until this year... If you are not a casual tv watcher DO NOT BUY THIS TV... I exchanged 3 sets thinking it was just a defect but it is not. They switched the LED lighting to the bottom of the TV and have increased the brightness to meet the minimum 1000 nits for HDR and by doing this completely screwed the tv up. You have the most annoying light bleed on this tv that shows even in full screen with light pictures. Of course it ruins the black bars in Blu-ray and 4k bluray as well. I was so excited about HDR but all i look at while watching the content is the ridiculous amount of light bleed. If you love blacks and would notice these things trust me DO NOT BUY THIS TV. I returned my JS9000 for this tv and now I am kicking myself and have gone through 3 tv's since. I am either going to get a Sony X930d or go backwards and get a Samsung JS9500 but stay away from these 2016 Samsung's if you are serious about light bleed and black levels.

Great TV for the average consumer
Posted by: ShakyPockets from: on
This is a great TV for the average consumer. However, it is not priced for the average consumer, but rather the videophile high end market. This is where Samsung fails.
First things first: the TV is edge lit - top and bottom, not sides anymore - not FALD. Samsung has done this for two reasons. 1) To get HDR level brightness/contracts/etc and 2) Their "research" says that most people watch TV in a lit room so blacks don't matter that much. This point to my point that this TV is built for the average consumer. That is not to say the picture is not fantastic, it is. Colors are amazing; their CMR/AMP is still one of the best in it's class.
Secondly, the blacks are fantastic for an edge lit when sitting in the center of the TV. That is where the great blacks end. The further out you go on a viewing angle, the light bleed becomes atrocious and colors wash out significantly.
Thirdly, the micro stuttering on this TV is horrible. If you are sensitive to this feature - I am, my wife can't see it - it makes the TV unwatchable. This has been an intermittent problem with Samsung TVs for some time, and I wish they would have solved it by now.
Lastly, the TV really is a gorgeous piece from an aesthetic standpoint. The "no bezel" screen really is fantastic and it is almost as thin as an OLED.
To sum things up, I had to return the TV due mainly to the micro stuttering. I gave this TV three stars because the picture was indeed fantastic, as long as you were sitting in the center and the design was excellent.
I would only recommend this TV to the casual TV buyer, who is not looking for the best TVs have to offer (FALD, etc).

I excited to purchase this tv. I decided to go with this version over the $1,000 less 8500 series in hopes of an amazing tv. My first one out of the box had a connection problem at the tv side port for the One Connect box. I didn't know this until it was mounted on the wall.
So then, I had to call a friend, take it down and wait another week for a replacement to arrive at my house. I got the replacement, called a friend to help hang this one on the wall, hooked it up, and much to my anger and shock, this one had a 1.5" wide black line down the middle of the left side of the screen.
Now, I'm fuming. I paid close to $4,000 for a tv over 3 weeks ago and I still don't have one that works. I have to again call a friend, take it down, wait for a THIRD replacement, call a friend a try yet again. I can't blame Best Buy, but no one seems to be interested in fixing this quickly. I have been beyond inconvenienced and am ready now to just return it and try another brand. The price for this tv is INSANE for what little more you get over the 8500 series.
Way over priced and disappointed with Samsung. I have been a huge fan of theirs for years. I just bought over $6,000 of their appliances and seem to get nothing for loyalty except we will bring you a new one.

Not quite there yet
Posted by: JMPK from: on
I have had multiple Samsung televisions in the past years all show good picture quality but the "judder" effect still plagues them. I purchased this TV thinking that with the new motion rate technology and advanced engine the TV would finally perform up to it's 3500 dollar price tag. I was wrong. Live TV events such as golf, baseball, and hockey are extremely sharp and the picture quality is amazing, but your good old favorite weekly series and movies, show the TV's flaws. I have had the TV about 4 months now and have made a lot of adjustments as I watch. Nothing will get rid of the picture judder. If you have an older Samsung with the same complaints don't run out and spend the money on this TV the issue is still there. Overall semi-pleased with the TV but not the price tag. Would only recommend this to a friend if this was their first dive into 4K. Otherwise keep what you have for now.

I have read a few reviews for this Samsung TV on various sites and they are all over the place. This year, all Samsung TVs are Ultra HD Premium sets with CTA certification. I bought this TV two weeks ago from Best Buy and had Geek Squad deliver and set it up. Internet connection, streaming and overall performance so far is excellent. This is and should be considered Samsung's flagship model. Yes, it is edge lit this year and that may be somewhat disappointing to some considering that the JS9500 from 2015 is full array, but in looking at this TV and viewing various sources through it, the difference between last years' and this years' models is minor. For those who sing the praises of OLED, compare this TV to it. OLED is great, just not worth the high price, and taking a chance on it when other manufactures are slow or cannot produce OLED to the quality that LG does and at a reasonable price, I have to consider OLED the elephant in the room for now despite the great picture quality. This Samsung is as close that you will get to OLED and the black levels although not quite as good are as close as you will get and much better than the average TV. The up scaling here is very good. Its not all the way up to 4K but its close.

Really disappointing - charging to make 4k work?
Posted by: lathahgjhgjhg from: Minnesota on
I purchased this unit early from Magnolia and it was not cheap. I loved the idea of 4k movies and suffered with what I could download and play in 4k. Finally true 4K UHD HDR movies are available and so it the matching 4k Samsung blu-ray player (model UBD-k8500). I order the player and some movies but it doesn't work???? Well, turns out Samsung wants me to pay $400 for a "2015 Evo Upgrade" so that I can play 4k UHD movies. What???? I have a ton of Samsung gear including high-end equipment I paid a lot of money for and they want me to pay another $400 to watch UHD????? Bad customer service. This should be a free upgrade and they should send someone out to install it for what I paid for this equipment.
