Q: Can the Gear s2 be used to make and take calls via bluetooth?
A: You can use the watch to make and answer calls... on your phone. it is really lame. the gear s2 and s2 classic do not have a speaker, and therefore cannot be used to take/make calls. the 3g version will have that capability. I got the gear s2 last week and i was thoroughly disappointed to find out that it lacks that ability. it will answer the call, but you can't speak to them on your watch; you'll need to pull out your phone and put it to your ear. also means any music needs to be played through your phone or other bluetooth device. alarms on your watch dont make any noise either. not a deal breaker for me... yet.

You have apps on the watch, example: weather, clock face (too many to count ), photos, timers , calendar, alarms, news tickers, email , text, , s-voice, stop watch, voice memo, love the find my phone, map, buddy (favorite), Samsung milk, . You can set up the apps you prefer, though the gear main app. On your Samsung phone.
Q: Can you answer a phone call on the classic s2?
A: I've read there will be a 3G version coming out, I think it's out as I've seen offers for it from AT&T and Verizon. Not sure on pricing or contract terms from them. My Gear S2 Classic can't answer a call, only alert you of one.
A: I know this is an old question, but these S2 watches are still out there, so the question is still very relevant, and every single one of the other answers are based on only one version of the watch, but there are actually versions of the S2 and the S2 Classic. Read on... The Samsung Gear S2 DOES have a speaker, but it's only on the 3G models. It's the models that are exclusively Bluetooth that don't have a speaker. In other words, if your S2 or S2 Classic has its own phone number and can be used completely independent of the phone, then it does have a speaker. I know this because I still have one of each. But, if your S2 or S2 Classic requires a compatible phone and has to be within Bluetooth range to place/receive calls and send/receive messages, then there is no speaker.
