    • Effective Pixels: 20.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • General
    • Product Name: Cyber-shot RX100 20.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: DSCRX100/B
    • Color: Black
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: 1” (13.2 x 8.8 mm)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5472 x 3648 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: 54x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Optical Zoom: 3.6x (The optical zoom uses a combination of lenses that magnify the image prior to it being registered at high resolution by the imaging sensor.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): AVCHD, JPEG, RAW, Other (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 30 - 1/2000 sec., bulb (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Shooting Modes: Portrait, antimotion blur, sports action, pet, gourmet, macro, landscape, sunset, night scene, handheld twilight, night portrait, fireworks and more (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, incandescent, fluorescent (warm white) and more (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Off, Slow sync (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)

Q: How is the zoom? What is the difference between Optical and digital. Looking for one that takes good pictures in low light with a good zoom

A: Hi, when using the optical zoom, the focal point is adjusted by moving optical lens back and forth and images are shown physically enlarged. Therefore, there is virtually no deterioration in the image quality. When using the digital zoom, digital images captured by the image sensor of the camera are enlarged by digital signal processing. These signals are created by estimating the data from the surrounding pixels. Therefore, as the magnification level increases, signals to be estimated increase and image quality is deteriorated. Regarding low light shooting, Dawn, dusk, and everything in between, you get clear, natural results thanks to a wide ISO range from 125 to 6400. Let Auto ISO mode determine the best setting, or tweak the ISO yourself. I hope this helps. Dave

Q: Is this compatible with a mac?

A: Yes, the Sony DSCRX100 Camera is compatible with Macintosh Operating System. You can use iPhoto Software for transferring images and iMovie Software for transferring videos.

Q: How can I transfer the images off camera into my laptop?

A: Get a EYE-FI Mobi WIFI Memory card. Works great!

Q: Sony Cybershot RX100 vs Sony A5000 mirrorless? or any other suggestions?

A: Panasonic Lumix is what I like to carry around. It's light and great sharp photos. So easy to use.

Q: Is a battery charger included in this package

A: Not a battery charger but a mini USB cord with a wall outlet adapter. You can buy an actual battery charger separately. We have not needed to buy an additional battery or a separate charger.

Q: Does this have interchangeable lenses?

A: The Camera DSC-RX100/B does not have an interchangeable lens. It is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens with control ring which is capable of reproducing sharp images with excellent contrast.

Q: Can I transfer pics over wifi?

A: No, unfortunately it doesn't have wifi and bluetooth option. I wish it had, will be great upgrade.
