  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: DSCRX10M2/B
    • Product Name: Cyber-shot RX10 II 20.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Black
    • Digital Camera Type: DSLR Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (22.2 x 14.8 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 21 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5472 x 3648 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: 33x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: iAuto: 4 - 1/3200 sec., program auto: 30 - 1/3200 sec., manual exposure: bulb, 30 sec. or 1/3200 sec., aperture priority: 30 - 1/3200 sec., shutter priority: 30 - 1/3200 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: f/1.8 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/2.8 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Shooting Modes: AUTO (Intelligent Auto/Superior Auto), program auto, aperture priority, shutter-speed priority, manual exposure, MR (memory recall) and more (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Portrait, sports action, macro, landscape and more (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, incandescent, fluorescent, flash, color temperature, filter, custom (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • Lens Type: Standard Zoom
    • Minimum Focal Length: 8.8 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 73.3 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
    • Lens Series: Sony E (The product group that the lens belongs to, based on similar shared features.)
    • Lens Model Number: Built-in
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic, Off, Slow sync (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)

Q: which memory card would be best for this camera?

A: Selection of the SD card varies with how you want to use the camera. If you want to use it primarily for still photo's, use Sandisk Extreme Plus or Extreme Pro 80 MB/s - 95 MB/s "U-1" cards. If you want to fully use all of the features at maximum quality, use Sandisk Extreme Plus or Extreme Pro 80 MS/s - 95 MB/s "U-3" cards, and you will get excellent results. The only way you can shoot 4k video at highest quality, as well as fully take advantage of the High Frame Rate recording feature is with the U-3 cards, and they are expensive but worth it. Besides, Best Buy has them on sale at the moment. I only use the 64 GB size right now, but am considering using 128 so that I can shoot more video. The camera can only use one SD card at a time, which is why I go with a large capacity card.

Q: is this a wide angel camera , I need it for real estate

A: Yes, the lens can do wide angle and telephoto shots.

Q: Will this camera tint the movies orange when shooting stage plays with spot lights ?

A: Hi Bill, It depends on the lighting that stage plays uses. You can easily control the temperature or tint of the video by adjusting the White Balance of the camera. There are preset that you can instantly use and you can also manually adjust in Kelvins. Best regards, Zander

Q: What is the maximum time this camera can record with a 64 mb and 128 mb card.

A: Hi Bill, the maximum amount will depend on the file format of the videos. You can record AVCHD files with a maximum of 6 hours when using a 64GB memory card. Thanks_Mitch

Q: Mic input?

A: Yes, Sony DSC-RX10 II does have an input jack for external mic.

Q: Does this camera allow you to take pictures at night.

A: It's an amazing camera. Sony cameras are great in low light. This camera shoots fast which is great for action and pets. It's my favorite all around camera and the one I have been happiest with from all the point and shoot cameras. If I could get the newer version SONY DSCRX10M3 I would as it has a larger zoom. I have been very happy with this camera. Buy the extended warranty if you plan on using it a lot, I do with all of my cameras.
