Great for 2-day trips with laptop and other gear
Posted by: psmithusa from: St. Louis, MO on
I do a number of 2-day business trips requiring airline travel and I was looking for a backpack that I could use for these trips that would hold my laptop, all my other electronic gear, files for work, and a change of clothes for the next day at work. My objective was to have just 1 bag that I can either store in the airplane overhead or store under my seat if the overheads are full. This backpack does the trick. It has lots of compartments for miscellaneous stuff, a couple small easily accessible pockets for keeping boarding pass and baggies for liquids that must be taken out at airport security. All my stuff fits in pretty easily and I'm also able to get my workout tennis shoes in there with no trouble. The bag fits under the seat in the airplane and is sturdy enough to store in the overhead bins without getting smashed by people cramming their stuff in there after you sit down. I think it will also be good for casual weekend trips. I love it.

IBEST Laptop Backpack
Posted by: AcesWild from: Wisconsin on
This is possibly the strongest backpack you will ever encounter without buying leather or metal/carbon casing. The weave is tight, taut and very durable. It is mostly water resistant, but will stain if it encounters bleach or other sorts of dye materials. The zippers are heavy duty and wont break off like most others. Pleasing appearnce and comfortable weight, even when full to the max.
>> Color: Blue / Gray / Black
>> H x W x D: 19" x 15" x 10"
>> Fits most 17" widescreens (As in my Dell Vostro 17" w/ 9 cell battery pack which sticks out the back of the laptop, bumping it out more)
>> Reinforced ergonomic carrying handle
>> Rear hanging handle doubles as trolley strap
>> Side zippered and mesh pockets
>> Extra durable material on bottom
>> Quik Pocket holds iPod/MP3 player for easy access to all of your gadgets
>> CaseBase Stabilizing Platform keeps your IBEX standing upright to keep your valuables in place
>> Air-Flow Back padding keeps your back cool even with a full pack
>> Comp-u-Flex computer pocket keeps your 17" widescreen snugly protected
>> Three main compartments provide space for all of your belongings
>> Shock Absorb Shoulder straps distribute weight evenly and keep you comfortable
>> Essentials Organizer in front pocket has pockets and slot for all of your accessories and gadgets
This pack holds many of the usual patrons of your pockets such as pens, iPods, calculators, phones, notepads, etc. Relatively larger mesh sidepockets than you would get from an average backpack. Tends to fit 16oz up to 24oz and SOBE sized bottles fairly tight and secure. It actually stands on its own. Can fit pretty much anything you have in mind when you want to go somewhere. Great travel size, but not to be confused with luggage.
Generally, when backpacks are empty, they looks almost like deflated helium balloons, slightly flat, very light, and just filled with air in the empty spaces. This backpack, whether it's because of its frame construction or what, I don't know, but it tends to looks like something is in it all the time. It also doesn't have a chest strap to go across the shoulders to connect shoulder strap to shoulder strap. With that, you can expect alot of bouncing when riding a bike while wearing this. Not terrible or anything, just something I thought they could have easily added for extra comfort and stability during bike transport.
When all is said and done, this is probably the best 17" capable laptop backpack you will find. Needless to say it is well worth the money. Pay the little extra and get this rather than the Targus ones, those materials aren't grade A like this. If you are still unconvinced, you can probably travel to any of your local Best Buy stores and feel them/see them in the laptop case aisle. They are generally one of the few actually on display in stores and is probably one of the only Wenger - Swiss Gear items you will find on sale.

Highly recommended bag
Posted by: ThomasH_BBYStaff43 from: Minneapolis on
I bought this bag for my Sony VAIO Vpcf115fm laptop (17") and have been really happy with it. It fits under the seat on the airplane easily and is just a solid design. The handle is reinforced with a steel cable similar to what you would lock your bike up with. The section for the laptop has a dedicated padded section with a Velcro strap to keep your laptop stabilized. I wish there was a black version available as blue is not my favorite color but overall it does the job.

Bought this for my son going off to school. Very, very sturdy. Almost sturdy enough for a student.....anyway, HE didn't like it....said it was too big.....
ME, I like it and here's why:
1) Construction. One of the major flaws of any backback is the carry strap(s). This one uses a cable for the top pull strap. You can't really break it....novel idea.....also, seeing how most of us sling a backback over our shoulders with ONE shoulder strap, it had better be sturdy considering the load of books, laptop, and other nefarious items one loads into one of these gems....
2) Capacity. Kind of like tools. Better to have it when you need it than to need it and not have it? The only thing goofier looking than loading this moonpack is to load a smaller one and STILL having to lug other items under your arms. Relax you students of vanity, if you don't load it all the way, most folks won't notice it. For those of us who are of a practical minds set and don't give a flip what others think, then it's a great choice.
You can stuff everything in here including parts of relatives you no longer want around and still have room for a laptop....it's roomy.....to say the very least......
Expensive? You bet. Can you find one similar on line from Shin-Fu industries ad nauseum......for less, you bet.....however, what is your time worth? Anyway, I bought a good laptop for him to get started at $449 and bought this as well. Like all men, one stop and we are done shopping.....
If you want a sturdy backpack that won't need to be replaced in a year or two, this is the one. If you are of smaller stature and don't want something as big, I understand, just realize, this size gives you the extra deep pocket you won't get on a smaller one. On a smaller backpack you will get one large pocket. This extra one is great for a netbook/notebook with a sleeve, charger, etc.....etc....
Gotta haul a load? This is the one....going to school part-time....er....maybe not...if you do buy it, you won't be dissappointed. It will survive your ape(s).....er kids.....too...

Laptop Bags don't get much better than this
Posted by: QubeIt from: Orlando, FL on
If we ever get to a point where the homeless are carrying laptops in addition to cell phones, then the days of toting around old shopping carts are over because this bag can hold everything!!
I own a Dell m6400 17" laptop that I carry around in this bag and it has definitely earned it's keep (the bag, that is - albeit the laptop too, but that's another review). I have had this bag for just over a year and it looks as good as it did the day I bought it. It has survived *almost* all the abuse I have thrown at it, including a very sudden maneuver and stop with my car which sent this laptop flying from the back seat up to my front passenger seat, into the dash, and onto the floorboard. The padding completely protected the laptop and everything that was inside stayed intact and in its place. Needless to say, I now strap in my bag with a seatbelt and throw the kid's carseat (with my kid in it) on the floorboard. JUST KIDDING!!! Jeez, I'm not that shallow!! :)
The only "chink" I found in the armor of this bag is when one day I precariously set it on the edge of my desk and walked away. The bag tipped and fell end over end and landed upside down with the corner of the laptop crushing the zipper to the concrete floor. That zipper is the only spot where there is no padding and thus the zipper bent and was irrepairable (by mere mortals like myself) so I had to go get another bag. The lesson here is don't perch your bag in precarious positions with a laptop and 600 lbs of "stuff" in it because Murphy's Law will indeed kick in. By the way, the laptop is just fine. A minor cosmetic scratch where it crushed the zipper, but it still runs like a dream.

Disappointed in Wenger Customer Service
Posted by: JOeyinFLA from: Florida on
I purchase this bag about a year ago after reading great reviews on it. I am a teacher and use it to transport my laptop to and from school. A year later, the zipper is coming unstitched in the main compartment. The rubber that forms the handgrip is broken and cracking. I emailed Wenger with the pictures of the problems. They said they would be unable to help me without a copy of the sales receipt. I did not foresee having problems so I didn't keep the receipt. I paid for it with gift cards, so I don't have a record via CC statement either. I understand the terms of the warranty, but I feel I paid a premium price for this bag, and have not received premium service nor durability. If you risk buying one of these, make sure to keep your receipt. I loved the bag, I wish their customer service department could have helped me.

Excellent, Must BUY

I am very glad I purchased this bag. My friend recommended it and it has solved every issue I could have imagined. You can fit so much in these bags I forget what all is actually in there. Most importantly it is all organized to your discretion. Swiss makes expensive but TOP QUALITY BAGS!!!!

Just missing waist/chest strap
Posted by: bwoodlan from: West Lafayette, IN on
I was forced to buy a larger bag because of my new 17" laptop. I chose this bag because it was the largest and most durable looking one. 7 months later I have not had any issues with it as far as wear and tear. It still looks and feels new. I expect it to last for years and years. Granted, I have had a $20 Wal-mart backpack last me through most of high school and college, so I am not particularly rough with my bags.
This is the best quality backpack I have ever owned. The construction is top notch, and the zippers work perfectly every time. I have not had a zipper stick once with this bag.
My Dell model 1745 fits great in the laptop compartment. I feel like it is well padded. One corner of my laptop bulges slightly against the zipper area when it is zipped shut. So there is not a ton of room to spare, but it is not tight either.
I love having sleeves inside the laptop and main pockets to keep loose papers from crumpling underneath my books. They stay straight and well arranged.
Two large front compartments help me separate items. I can easily fit my laptop, two or three textbooks, some notebooks, papers, and a lunch on top. It pretty much always has room for one more thing, though I have run out of room on occasion. The only problem with being able to carry so much, including a heavy 17" laptop is that the backpack gets very heavy. A pack with the potential to get this heavy should have come with a waist strap or chest strap to help distribute the weight. At least the straps and the back are well padded.

Excellent replacement for regular computer bag
Posted by: FatChance from: Illinois on
After getting a new 17" widescreen laptop for work, decided I would rather have a backpack type of bag. Went through various stores looking for a bag that has ample storage space as well as fits a laptop this big. This bag was the best option I could find. I don't feel I compromised on anything. Tons of pockets, even some with special material for more expensive items to prevent scratches.
Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for this type of solution.

I purchased this backpack to accommodate my 17.3" MSI gaming notebook. it fits snugly under the zipper, and the security elastic/velcro, barely fits with some effort. I not only carry that notebook, but also my 14.1" dell work notebook, ipad, paper notebook, Corsair over-sized, gaming headphones power adapters/cables, etc. you can fit quite a bit in the bag. Doing so, makes it a bit unwieldy, and I think that a smallish person may tip over if its overloaded. That being said, I am not smallish, and as such it works well for me.
