The Faculty New Blu is Better
"The Faculty" originally on DVD was a sorry transfer. The picture ratio was bothersome, and the sound was only adequate. But with the new Blu-ray version, picture is about as good as you could get for a film this age, and the sound is bombastic. The movie itself is a wonderful thrill ride from Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk 'til Dawn, Sin City) and Kevin Williamson (Scream 1-3, I know What You Did Last Summer), deliver a hip Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Great cast includes very young or much younger Jordan Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Robert Patrick, and Elijah Wood.
Robert Rodriguez has proven more recently that his love of exploitation cinema is true, but this piece from 1998 was an awesome early indicator. Set up very much like a BREAKFAST CLUB rip-off with a thick layer of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS paranoia, THE FACULTY has a pretty great cast and killer special FX. Thoroughly enjoyable & worthy of multiple viewings.
