Performance is mixed on this dashcam

This dash cam is a good performer in day time conditions, however the night time performance is an F, make it F-. You can't even make out details, you would need such bright lights other drivers on the road would be blinded just so the video would work. You see spots that are light sources, but everywhere else is black.
The dashcam comes with a 8GB micro SD card, 2 different adapters one a microSD to SD Card adapter, and a usb adapter that accepts the microSD card directly.
The MicroSD card comes with all the software you need to view your files. The program installs on your computer in moments.
The cam uses a proprietary video recording file that cannot be seen (probably just hidden) but only viewed and exported on the Video Viewing software. You can change the setting for the cam through this software that saves it to file that is loaded by the dashcam when it is powered on.
By default the cam records in 1 minute segments and cannot be changed. The default (middle) sensitivity is still rather sensitive, the setting is either low, middle, or high. You can turn off the mic if you don't want to record the ambient sounds while your driving.
Mounting is relatively simple, however the mount is very basic. Make absolutely certain you have it oriented level and where you want it as once it's on the windshield it stays! I was ever so slightly out of level and it will not move. However this does not impact what is seen that much, it's just not quite there.
This cam support GPS antenna, but doesn't come with one. One can be ordered though.
The cam also comes with power adapter and cord long enough to be routed to your power adapter port.
In conclusion i feel this dash cam is way overpriced for it's performance alone. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives that offer the features and similar performance. For the money I would have expected a slightly better sensor that does better at night.

No what comes with it and what is extra

The camera works great so far. I wish the sales person new more about the product. It does not come with the cable for GPS which would show your location on a map when it recorded. It does not come with cable for parking mode which records while car is parked if it detects motion or vibration. Parking mode is why I bought it. $30 for parking mode cable.

This camera works well and provides good quality video (it is 720 vs 1080 so you don't get high resolution but video is still quite clear). I did a fair amount of research and the manufacturer has a really good reputation. I initially thought the lack of a video monitor would be an issue but it has not been a problem (the lack of a monitor actually makes it quite small so it stays rather hidden behind your mirror). It stores the video on a micro sd card and requires a Windows computer to view the video (I use a Windows 10 tablet with mine). My only complaint is the stupid "Have a safe drive message" it says each time it starts up - it would be nice if they provided an option to turn that off.

Good Camera with Proprietary Software
Posted by: racl from: Germantown, MD on
Camera works as advertised and it is very reliable. My only complaint is, this camera needs a proprietary software to watch and/or save the videos. This means, videos are not recorded on a standard format that any video editing software can read. There is a way to convert videos to a standard format but that didn't work for me. I contacted customer service and they said they will work on this issue in the future.

Bought it after reading so many glowing reviews but I ended up returning it for two reasons-1) image quality, especially at night, is terrible and 2) there's a really annoying and LOUD greeting on startup that can't be disabled.

MORE THAN I EXPECTED!!
Posted by: VandoP from: on
Definitely a good buy. Picture/ sound quality are very good. Set up onto your vehicle is very easy, routing the wire is the hard part but wont kill ya. Loading files onto your computer for the first time is somewhat challenging as the instructions are in a way different, but after 10 minutes of familiarizing yourself with it, it all becomes very obvious. Will be back soon to purchase the second H50 for my vehicle. my wife loves the idea of having it in her car, due to a recent accident where the other person declined responsibility after they failed to stop for my wifes right of way. 100% satisfied with this product and definitely got more than WE expected.....PEACE OF MIND.

Overall good camera but night vision is awful
Posted by: Vrony from: on
I got this camera on sale for $49. It seemed like a good deal. I like the adhesive mounting. Easy setup but if u need a camera for night driving dont buy it.
The quality of the video recorded in night time is horrible. You can't see anything.
So dont buy it if u need a camera that works nighttime. Unfortunately i need to return this.

Simple Dash camera
Posted by: BadNeighbor from: on
We bought 2 of these for each of our cars. Fairly easy to install. Great, if all you need is video. If you want GPS, or want to hardwire you have to buy those accessories separate. Which was no big deal for us. Video seems to be pretty clear for 720p. Installs pretty easily on my Windows 8 laptop. We purchased a 32 GB sd card for more storage because it only comes with 8 GB card. We got it at a sale price so far they are good for what we need them for.

Great at first but soon began issues
Posted by: n2frets from: on
The video recorded by the Thinkware H50 was great when I first purchased this dash cam. Unfortunately after less than a year of use, the video being recorded is choppy at best with a lot of artifacts and ghosting affecting all recordings. The video sometimes cuts out altogether. I have tried using new memory cards and I always purchase the Class 10 professional cards made for recording video. The manufacturer has not offered a single firmware update for the H50 and doesn't seem likely to in the future. The software needed to watch or convert the video does not allow for the videos to be deleted and formatting in the unit doesn't even delete the old recordings. Setting the time and date is useless as each time I have tried, the unit seems to default to sometime in 2012. I am greatly disappointed in the rapid degradation of this little dash cam and will not consider this brand in the future. I guess for $50, you get what you pay for.

I have purchased 3 of them and they are great.
Posted by: HBSurferMan85 from: on
I have purchased 3 of them for the vehicles and are worth every penny if an accident ever happens. The night time quality is low, but you can still see the lanes and street lights. what is $70 that could save you a $1000.00 deductible. (I have 2 teenagers that drive).
