Excellent Budget TV

After moving to a new apartment, I'd been looking to replace my LG 32" TV. It used to be in my room at my rents' place, but now having a couch and sitting further back, 32" wasn't cutting it. I found this Toshiba 43" Open Box - Geek Squad Certified deal and took the plunge. I was hesitant, especially not hearing many good things about any TV brands other than LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Vizio, etc. I'm happy to say that this TV, for the price, is outstanding.
I will say that when I took the TV out of the box it had some scuffs on the black plastic trim around the screen; it was open box after all. I took some Meguiar's Plastic Polish and a microfiber cloth and buffed this area a little bit, cleaned the screen with a white vinegar/water solution, and did an all over dusting and now it looks like a brand new item.
The Toshiba won't have all the bells and whistles of some of the higher end TV's, but it doesn't cost nearly as much either. It's not a Smart TV, it doesn't have a 120 Hz+ refresh rate, but it's a solid unit with solid performance. I would say the key thing with this TV is to know what you're buying. I'll outline it's performance below.
The picture, for me, is fantastic. Now, I'm using this TV primarily for gaming and the occasional DVD nothing more nothing less. I don't need to see the pores or the individual hairs of people on the screen. Why? Because even if I wanted to I can't. As an Xbox 360/Playstation 3 owner, the games' graphics aren't that high. I did some trials on some of my most graphically demanding games however and the TV showed them beautifully. Blacks were nice and dark, colors were vibrant and popped (where they needed to) and there was no motion blur or errors in places there shouldn't have been. For most, this TV will look fantastic. 1080P LED has been a solid choice for years and still is. If you don't demand to see the finest details TV's can offer, this Toshiba will more than please. If you absolutely must have the latest and greatest, look elsewhere.
What really impressed me about this TV was the speaker system. I have never heard built-in TV speakers that sounded this good. I was using an iSound sound bar on my old 32" TV because the speakers weren't anything special, but the Toshiba blows even the sound bar out of the water. Highs are nice and clear with no distortion, there's a strong bass, and the DTS surround sound is equally impressive. The sound really does go from one end of the TV to another like surround sound and it projects so well you'd swear you had speakers on the side of you.
All in all for the price I got it for, this TV was a steal. I hadn't heard much about Toshiba TV's but if they continue to stay in the market I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I highly recommend this TV for someone who wants a "Mustang" of TV's. Yeah it's not a "Ferrari" but it's not trying to be. It's an incredibly strong performer in its own right.

Great television, better price!

I was looking for a simple tv that would suit for gaming on an Xbox One. I play competitive games, but not competitively and this TV looks fantastic. After testing with the Gears of War 4 Beta, input lag was pretty much imperceptible, which was a big plus. I'm sure it's not quite as fast as the 4K Vizios, but at half the price, it was a great deal.
It's hard to get excited about the smart TV features that more expensive models bring to the table, especially if you own an Apple TV or other streaming box. The interfaces on Smart TVs are usually slow and buggy anyway, so not having those features in order to keep the prices low is brilliant. You can almost always get a better experience with a dedicated box than the integrated functionality anyway.
I'm very happy with the purchase. If you're looking to get one, I found the color reproduction to be great and the quality of the panel at 1080p is excellent for the price. Lack of features is not something you should be concerned about at the price point, and if their absence keeps the costs low, I'm very happy. It looks great with an Xbox One and Apple TV. Best of luck!

Excellent LED TV!

I was looking for a basic LED TV, and found this one at a good price. Using a house antenna, the images are spectacular and the sound is superb! Just connect Roku, Chrome Cast, or a WiFi Blu-ray player, and you have a "smart TV"!

Fear not skeptics! i was skeptical at first because of how low the price was for a name brand TV, but once i took it out the box and put it together it blew my mind how great it was. The picture quality is great, the sound is amazing, and for the price, you cant get any better than this. The only problem i had was that since i upgraded to a HD TV, at first the picture quality was awful. Until! i simply called my TV provider to have them install HD TV receivers. (Which was free to me). Afterwards, the quality was just awesome. This TV is worth way more than what its being advertised at so i extremely recommend it before they're all gone :)

Excellent TV for the price.

I bought this TV looking to replace a 7 year old Phillips plasma that had started to fail on me. I read plenty of reviews on this TV and the most common complaint was the sound. This TV is for my bedroom so that wasn't a really big issue for me.
When I got the TV home I was surprised by how light the TV was compared to the one it had replaced. Setup was a snap and after a simple adjustment to the sound for treble and bass settings I was blown away by what I had bought for $250. The sound is crystal clear and the picture is beautiful (for the price).
I have no regrets for this purchase and would strongly recommend this to people I know.

Picture quality very good, sound great, and very lightweight. Price compared to similar alternatives excellent. A good viewing device for that "other" location such as den or office

It's not everyday that your Dad turns 75! My Dad was extremely pleased to receive this for his Birthday....had it out of the box and set up in the bedroom within the half hour. Was easy to hook up and now he can watch the races in style when Mom is watching the Hallmark channel in the living room. Very clear picture quality.

Good Picture/Bad Sound
Posted by: ufos8mycow from: on
When lightning struck my TV through the cable line I had to purchase a new one and this one fit within my budget. My old TV was a Toshiba 720p 32" so this one is an upgrade.
Setup was easy. The picture is great. The sound is terrible.
You'll need to adjust the picture quality but it isn't that hard to do and you should have no trouble playing around with the settings. There is a reset button so you can put everything back to factory settings if you need to start over.
As for the sound- The speakers aren't bad speakers. It's the positioning of the speakers. The sound comes out from the BOTTOM of the TV between the legs. The sound quality (because of position) is far worse than my 5 year old Toshiba TV. It works in a small room with little background noise but if you have a loud house or big room then you will need a sound bar/external speakers. I'm buying a sound bar.
It's not a Smart TV but with a Firestick or other streaming service you can easily make this into a not-dumb TV. You can also hook it up to your laptop or desktop with an HDMI cable and use it for internet streaming. You don't need to spend the extra money for Smart if you don't want to.
Lastly this TV comes with a QAM tuner. This means you don't need to rent a cable box from the cable company to use it. I am using the TV in the bedroom where I just plug the cable directly into the TV. You will not get HD programming other than OTA channels (local) but you aren't paying an extra $20/month for a 2nd box either.
(some cable companies are getting rid of direct cable hookups. Your area/cable company might be different from mine.)
All in all it was a good purchase for me. I am familiar with Toshiba and hadn't had any major problems with the other two Toshiba TVs I've owned.
