Good quality TV for price
Posted by: EnthusiasticOwner from: Alabama, USA on
Bought this tv today after some extensive reviewing of tvs online within the price range that I wanted ($300 to 400). This was on the low end of that range, and for what I got I am very pleased. I previously had a Toshiba tv unit that I bought in 2010 that had been going strong for 6 years, and have owned several Toshiba laptops, so I figured this would be a good brand to stick with for hardware quality.
Picture: On first impression, the picture isn't great, but with tweaking in the settings, which are extensive, this thing can make a great display for tv shows, movies, and games. I recommend setting up a different mode and tweaking them for each of these that you want to view. The only issue I have with the picture is that at 60hz and an 8ms response time, action scenes in games and sports WILL blur some. This is going to happen with any 60hz set, so I wasn't surprised to find it on this unit. As with most tvs, I recommend turning off anything that says "dynamic" on the advanced settings page, and then tweaking settings from there. There is also a good bit of glare from harsh light sources since this screen is gloss and not matte, but once again that is an aspect of the tv and will be the case on any other glossy tv. 8/10.
Sound: I am pleasantly happy with this tv's sound. My previous Toshiba tv had very tinny speakers, and I can say this unit has full sound, with great mids and highs and pretty good bass for what you'd expect from a tv unit. It is powered by two 10w speakers, so the sound can get decently loud as well. I recommend upping the bass and treble settings to +8 or so for most uses, and also turn off TruSurround and see if you prefer it off or on. I personally prefer it to be off for most uses, but it does add some immersion when watching movies. Sound is actually really solid, and if it bothers you there is both a 3.5mm sound output and an optical digital output for sound bars. 10/10.
Other aspects: The tv weighs only 24-25 pounds and is very easy to transport. I was able to lug it up three flights of stairs to my apartment by myself, with minimal effort, however I am pretty tall. For those that are short, two average-strength people could also easily get it up several flights without worrying about it hitting the stairs. The tv's stands were easy to assemble, and I had the tv unboxed, stand assembled, and hooked up in about 8-10 minutes. It wobbles a tiny bit on the stand, but after giving a solid 10 lbs of pressure on it in either direction, the stand does not budge and it doesn't look like it would fall over without considerable effort.
Overall I'd give the tv a 9/10 for a no-frills, non-smart tv that is 1080p and runs at 60hz and is super cheap. For its price its picture is good, its sound is excellent, and it does exactly what it is supposed to do.

When all you want is a tv this is the one to get

No apps, no network connectivity, no extras. It is just a good tv. It is light, it doesn't give off any heat. It has a great picture and great sound. You won't need a home theater or sound bar with this one. My blu-ray player and satellite receiver fit between the tv and the stand. We bought this on March 24, 2016

I don't think you can beat this TV for $249 right now. A salesman suckered me into buying a 48" Sony smart tv last night for $458 with"MotionFlow 240" as his main selling point. While the colors on the Sony may have been a tiny bit more vivid / accurate, that was only thing better on it IMO. The motion on this TV is just as good (they're both only really 60hz after all), and the sound on this one is WAY better - more bass and just fuller overall. And lastly, the build quality of this one is better than the Sony, which felt flimsy. Taking it out of the box, I could feel the bezel on the edge wiggling against the frame, and I was being careful. Not the case with this one, although it may be a tad thicker, but it's negligible because they're both very light-weight. Don't get me wrong, if I could have gotten the Sony for this price, I would have taken it. But it's not worth $209 more than this one, which is practically double. I'll wait until 4K comes down in price a bit more before I shell out almost $500.

I HAVE BOUGHT TWO OF THESE FOR MY DAUGHTERS
Posted by: rossibaby from: houston tx on
This tv is just great.
I bought one, online, for my daughter in Chicago. She loved it so much i bought one for her sister in Dallas. And now that i have seen the one in Dallas, i see why she is so excited.
Picture is crystal clear. The sound is just terrific. I added a wifi Blue Ray player and both are now Smart capable with internet browsing. An incredible value.
I have a sound bar on the one in Dallas, and for this small investment we have a legit home theater.
But really, a 49" 1080 tv for less than 300.00 is remarkable.
I cannot recommend highly enough.

Fantastic for the Price - Great Picture and Sound
Posted by: MollyKodii from: on
I was looking for a flat screen LED upgrade to replace a small, LCD TV. After looking at a specific brand/model I had seen online, our sales associate recommended this Toshiba as a possible alternate to my (first) choice. Lets see - brand name, larger, better picture, and cheaper? Great, I'll take one. While obviously not the same quality as a $1000 TV - this one is FANTASTIC for the price. The image is clear and sharp, set up was a breeze, and the ONLY drawback is the speakers are not great. Very good, but theres not quite enough available volume if you're expecting to be immersed in sound.
For the money, this TV can't be beat!

Very good quality tv

TV is great. Picture is crystal clear and sound is awesome. Set up was very simple. No need for external speaker as it has 20w speaker. Very loud and clear sound. To make as a smart tv you need a streaming device. What else someone need. Build Quality of the tv is good and weigh less suprisingly. Anyone wants non smart tv with less price and good quality, this is the right choice

Great TV for the price. Purchased online so I did not see the TV in person. Very lightweight and the picture and sound is good. The only thing I was disappointed about is not realizing that I could not hook up my older video game systems and DVD player to it. The TV is all HDMl, no RCA. That is my fault for not researching before hand. All in all, I am thinking of purchasing a second one for another room.

Eyes Glued to TV
Posted by: Bree815 from: Ohio on
So, I don't watch much TV but I am finishing my basement and decided to buy a new one for down there. I hooked this up in a matter of minutes and happened to catch the Walking Dead marathon just as I turned it on. I couldn't stop watching! I was extremely impressed with the sound quality! I felt like I was in a theater! and the Picture was crystal clear. A 50 inch name brand TV for $249?! Can't top that! I will be buying another to upgrade my living room TV!

Can't recommend enough!!!

Got this on black friday for a GREAT deal! $150 TV, $20 Insurance, $30 Wall Mount. Not that the price matters now but just saying it was a steal so I shouldn't have expected the best buuutttttt I was SHOCKED when I turned it on, being a tech fanatic I am very picky and would never stop at the least, this TV broke my jaw. For $300 (current price at time of writing 5/14/16) I couldn't recommend this anymore. It has great picture and very good sound, only complaint is not AV out but that's okay. If you want goodies like a smart TV has, save yourself the money and buy a roku, or chromecast. Portable and fast and more features, hope this helps.
P.S. oddly satisfying remote to handle :p

Easy setup. Great picture. Think I need some help with audio. Maybe a sound bar will help.
