I started with the other keyboard and constantly made typing errors. I'm good at typing but you couldn't feel the keys enough. This keyboard has a nice soft touch and just enough movement to give you the needed feedback. With this keyboard I can take meeting notes, type long emails and do almost anything I would want to do on my surface RT.
My only negative, which hasn't proven true yet, is that when you flip the keyboard under to use it as a stand, it would scratch if set on a hard rough surface like concrete.
I am a big fan of the Surface RT and am glad to see a strong product provide competition to the others. Batter life is excellent and it seamlessly integrates with my Windows 8 phone and Live account with Skydrive.

Makes it an Ultrabook

I bought my Surface Pro not to use as a tablet but rather as an Ultrabook PC. This keyboard does exactly that - turns the Surface Pro into a PC. Given the shallow depth, the key action is good, the trackpad is responsive, and the weight and size penalties are reasonable. I do wish Microsoft had more tunability in their trackpad app, however. I would like to be able to change the sensitivity or even disable it completely with a keypress so I don't accidentally move the cursor with a brush of my palm. All my previous laptops have had a one-key enable/disable trackpad feature; this one should as well.

Portable - Gets the job done

Magnetically couples to the surface. Good feel to the keys. The first keyboard touchpad failed after about a week. The replacement has survived a fair amount of use over the last few weeks. Lightweight and does a good job of protecting the screen when closed.
The keyboard does not feel solid enough to be used in your lap, as I often do. It works well when fully supported on a desk or tray table on a plane. I do think $129 price is a bit high. I suppose that will resolve itself as 3rd party's begin to manufacture compatible products.
I do recommend the keyboard as the only convenient portable alternative. Its clumsy to a wired USB keyboard and I typically don't like the responsiveness of bluetooth keyboards, especially when typing intermittently.

This is an excellent keyboard that doubles as a cover and stand. Light and well engineered. As a more "mature" computer user I really like the tactile feel of they keys. Does not add much weight or size to the overall machine. I added a bluetooth mouse which also aids productivity over the touch pad. Easy connect/disconnect feature has been perfect so far over the two months that I have had the machine.

the following are my opinions on the type cover for the surface pro tablet. i purchased the type cover with my surface pro tablet. i have found the type cover to be very good. it is truly portable, i have had issues with previous travel keyboards as they are always more difficult to travel with than it seems. the type cover adds very little bulk to the actual tablet and fits in the same tablet slot with the surface. it seems sturdy enough for normal use, i haven't felt like i would break it or anything. typing on the type cover is far better than previous tablet keyboards i have used. the fact that it is not wireless means less missed keystrokes for me and the feedback from the keys is adequate. i use it mainly when i am out and about working on word docs, emails, notes, etc. i really like the felt-like backing on the cover. when i first got the surface tablet i was hesitant to lay it down on my desk and very careful about moving it around. just felt like i would scratch it or something. with the cover on i just lay it down on that side and have no fear. i have only 2 issues with it: 1) i leave the type cover attached when traveling with my surface pro. sometimes when i turn the tablet on to use it the track pad works but nothing i type is recognized. if i detach the type cover and re attach, it works fine. not sure if this is a device issue or if i have a defective one? tolerable issue though. 2) the track pad is a bit cumbersome to use. the area on the pad seems a bit small for me. also the responsiveness seems a bit low as well. this has been a problem with a lot of smaller travel keyboards i have used in the past. not a big problem since i am using a tablet, i just interact via the touchscreen anyway.
it does come with a premium price tag. i just thought of it as being part the cost of the surface pro. since i use it daily at work, school and home i am ok with the cost. only thing left is to see how well it holds up over time.

I got this keyboard for my Surface RT and I love it. I chose this "type" keyboard/cover over the touch one because it has more of a keyboard feel. When you type on it, the keys actually click like a real keyboard as opposed to the touch version. To me it's easier to type on. I also like how easily it clicks into place on the Surface and stays put. It also protects the screen when not in use.

I have had this for about two weeks now and the keyboard is the same as any other keyboard. Works very well with the surface pro. Buy this one instead of the touch cover. $10 dollars more is worth it.
By the way if you are not sure on buying the surface pro buy it you won't be sorry. The surface pro replaced my 2 year old i5 laptop. If you want portability this device is it. Don't compromise and buy a toy like the ipad. This device is for serious users.

I like having a keyboard for my tablet and it's a great cover too. Combined no heavier than my friend's Samsung with cover; probably lighter. Better than the other keyboard MS is offering as you could see the floor model was already falling apart in the store.
I think companies are making quite a bit of money off of covers and keyboards. Wish this had been <$100 then it would have been excellent.
A:AnswerIt is supposed to. The keyboards are said to be compatible forward and back as the new pro accessories are said to work with the pro original also.
A:AnswerYou do not have to have a separate mouse. The Trackpad will do anything a separate mouse will do. That said, if you are not use to a trackpad, a small Bluetooth mouse is a welcome addition and does not interfere with the trackpad.
A:AnswerNo. The keyboard has a specific multi-pin interface with the Surface tablet. It is not a Bluetooth keyboard. Will work with both Surface RT and Surface Pro.
A:AnswerI exchanged the package flat type with the raised keyboard cover at Best Buys and worked out about same price as package deal. Just ask, manager. You never know!
A:AnswerThe Surface RT is a tablet and except for the MS Office 2013 program that comes with it will only run apps downloaded from the Microsoft App Store.
The Surface Pro is a full fledged Windows 8 Pro computer and will run all programs that will run on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 in addition to apps downloaded from the Windows App Store.
The Windows 7 operating system is not compatible with the Surface Pro but your programs that run under that should work fine with Windows 8 Pro.
