My wife and I purchased a new Samsung 65 in TV for Christmas to go in our living room. Being a bit of an audiophile and like the sound of a movie as much as the movie itself, I wanted a nice sounding surround sound system. Being a cheapskate at the same time, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one either. My wife, being the diligent researcher she is, found several online from Best Buy and several "other" retailers. The VIZIO - 5.1-Channel Soundbar System popped up several times as a good choice. The Sony HT-CT260 also was highly recommended, but I wanted the full surround sound experience not a nice sounding bar. We read several reviews on both. The term "WOW", "AWESOME" and "BLOWN AWAY" were used by several people talking about the VIZIO but not so much with the Sony. The Sony cost less, but I wanted the VIZIO. We pulled the trigger and purchased the VIZIO and haven't looked back. Setup was easy. The main sound bar goes in front of the TV and is hooked up using either the fiber optic or coaxial cable (both supplied) to the TV or cable box. It can also be mounted to the wall for a clean looking install. The rear speakers are wired to the subwoofer and it is wireless. This makes setup MUCH easier and cleaner without a bunch of wires run all over the place. We had it up and running in no time. Several times in watching a movie or TV show I would get up from my seat to turn off TV's in other rooms to stop the background noise only to realize the sound was the background noise of the movie, NOT sounds in my house. You not only can see explosions and action, you can FEEL them with the subwoofer. The only complaints I have, and they are very minor, is their is no HDMI hookups (I didn't need them so no biggie) and the remote is a little hard to read in the dark. Otherwise, the words "WOW", "AWESOME" and "BLOWN AWAY" describe this sound bar to a T.

Great sound bar
Posted by: Manatwork from: Atlanta, Ga. on
This is a great system. Had it for a week, had no problem hooking it up to my 42' Vizio TV. The surround sound is awesome. This baby put out some wall shaking sound. I heard some negitive stuff from a person from another site complained about the volume, I think he/she did not know what they were doing. The surround is not as good as a Bose, but it comes in a good second. I can hear all the special effects sounds, ie, rain falling, glass breaking, the breath of a horse, you name it. I am so glad I was there when Best Buy just received the new 5.1 with Bluetooth. Watching Star Wars now, OMG what a sound! Buy this and have a movie night at home. The only problem I had was with the remote. Had a hard time trying to open it to place the batteries in.

Excellent Sound Bar System
Posted by: AppleFan from: on
I have been looking around for a good sound bar. I researched high and low and finally landed upon the Vizio 3821-W system which was not surround sound but had great reviews. I took it home and set it up and found it to be a nice system but something was missing. The sound bar and sub woofer were very good but not great. I took it back.
I read a little more and it dawned me that what I needed was a better sound bar with more speakers, etc and when I read about the Vizio 4251-W with a better sound bar (more and better speakers), a better wireless sub woofer and two surround sound speakers, it became obvious what I was missing - a complete home theater system for a reasonable.
This sound bar allows me to "experience" my TV, movies and music. It may not be as good as an expensive set of speakers, etc but for me, with a nice size living room, it works perfectly and allows me to enjoy TV, movies and music and not break the bank.
It was very simple to set up - about 10 minutes. Every cable was included that I needed. I then set my settings for volume on the sound bar, sub woofer and surround speakers. Another 10 minutes. I was done and ready to test it. I watched a new Star Trek movie and the "experience" was incredible. It felt like I was kinda in a theater.
For the money ($199), I could not find a better sound bar system anywhere and had looked at higher priced systems. This was great for the price, easy to set up and the "experience" of watching or listening to my entertainment was worth every penny.
I highly recommend!

Great sound system for smaller rooms
Posted by: CP24eva from: Herndon VA on
The system has a good sonic range for smaller areas. I have normal ceilings, a full man cave room, and carpeting, so that might complement the acoustics of the area. I've heard this systems doesn't perform as well with room having high ceilings.
Some folks also complained about the bluetooth connection being faulty around wifi. I have no such experience. I have two routers in my house. I have nearly 10 wifi connected devices in the house mainly connected on the 2.4 ghz frequency and I don't have that problem. In the direct vicinity of the sound system I have 4 wifi connected devices. Sometimes this issues have more to do with what is in the walls and not so much the wifi.
The surround sound speakers are pretty good. I was actually suprised when play "The Last of Us" for playstation 3 how he ambient noise was pretty accurate coming from either side. My toddler was actually scared of the creepy sounds coming from the sides. Lol.
At this price, I honestly think I have a steal. You can buy those portable bluetooth devices for close to the same price and wont sound as good. As far as comparisons to similar systems, I can't say what is better, but in full rooms and smaller less airy rooms, this is nice. My man cave isn't that small, but I assume with big room the sound coming from the subwoofer would be less affective. My cave is about 14x20 I think.

Fantastic Sound for the price
Posted by: Magmaviper from: Tulsa, OK on
I reviewed almost every single sound bar available before purchasing the Vizio 5.1 s4251w-b4.
I have owned 2-3 5.1 surround sound setups in the past, and this vizio sounds just as good if not better than some of my setups that I have previously used.
I am no audiophile but I do appreciate a good sounding system. I use my sound bar primarily with the PS4 and the bass is absolutely great when playing games like Battlefield 4 and Killzone.
I was a little concerned about the quality of the rear speakers that make this sound bar 5.1, but they sound fantastic. As i stated before I have used many 5.1 surround sound setups before, and the rear speakers for this sound bar sound great, and I notice them more than I did with my previous setups.
I mounted this sound bar underneath my TV using the Rocketfish Sound Bar Mount, this was easily the hardest part of the installation, as the sound bar is heavier than it seemed at first. I ended up using half of the mounting system to mount it under my tv and it appears flush underneath my tv.
My only disappointments with this sound bar system is the lack of a display on the sound bar itself. It does have lights that correspond to the button presses of the remote and it will say digital on the sound bar when it is receiving a digital signal, but I would have liked to have a fully functional display on the soundbar. The other is more of a problem with Vizio than the actual sound bar. They were supposed to release a 54" model of this sound bar this last year, but it has not yet been released. My tv is a 60" Sony KDL-60R550A and it is not as wide as the tv. It leaves about 4 inches on both sides of my tv.
I wish there was a 54" model available to closer match the width of my tv.
This sound bar is so good, that my father-in-law came over the day after I installed it and went and purchased the same model the next day.
Overall I am thrilled with this product, and it is an outstanding sound bar for the price that you pay.
One other thing to mention, is that Vizio included every single cable and mount that you will need to get this sound bar connected. Never have I purchased a piece of home theater equipment that came with every single thing you need. Vizio gets an A+ for this.

Perfect system for me
Posted by: swankmeister from: Northern KY on
After much review of lots of sound bars, I decided to try out this Vizio 5.1 system. Reviews stated it was great for movies, which is the primary use for me. After testing it in the store, as well as a few other sound bars, I believed I had found what I wanted.
This system replaced a Sony HTIB I purchased about 12 years ago. It is still in great shape, but with this Vizio sound bar system, I now hear what I have been missing. The reviews were absolutely correct that this sounds AMAZING!!
At home, setup was a breeze. There are very few cables, and the instructions were clear. When you add in the wireless subwoofer and surround sound speakers so you have true surround sound, this setup is very similar to what I had with the Sony, but things sound so much better now. My living room also looks better as there is less clutter, including no need for a receiver.
This Vizio 5.1 sound bar system has accomplished what I was looking to do: have amazing sound while simplifying the look of the room. I cannot wait to show this off to friends.

The best entry level sound bar system
Posted by: AustinTXLT from: Austin, Texas on
This sound bar exceeded my expectations. It has extremely good sound and is easy to setup and adjust. My TV has an optical audio out that carries 5.1, so it was as simple as connecting the cable and plugging it in. The menu on the remote is simple and easy to use, and provides a great deal of control over the output. The surround sound speakers are a bit unimpressive, but they only provide surround so large drivers are not as critical.
About my room:
I have a living room with a TV mounted above a fireplace. The ceiling is approximately 20 ft high, with 18ftx18ft dimensions. It has a tiled floor and opens to the rest of the home on two walls. Basically, a very large, acoustically poor room.
I originally purchased a sound bar from Sony and besides mediocore sound, it was extremely difficult to set up. This VIsio fills the room with great sound and has sufficient bass. I especially like that the surround sound speakers and subwoofer can be placed in the back of the room without running wires from the soundbar itself. It made installation clean and easy.
This replaced some very expensive $2,500 tower speakers with multiple powered subwoofers, and needless to say, the Visio is outmatched. However, the Visio is a much cleaner look and has surround sound - making sound difference an easy trade off.
If you are in the market for a sound bar (and especially if you want surround sound), you will want to give this a try.

Great sound, great price, easy to use!
Posted by: Tesee from: on
I considered only a sound bar, however, I am so happy that I went with this system that includes satellite speakers and subwoofer. Impressive performance at a reasonable price. Friends and family doubted my ability to install by myself, but I had no trouble at all! Be aware that there are wires connecting the satellite speakers to the subwoofer.

Good for what it is
Posted by: LAKings11 from: Los Angeles on
These are a good solution for getting an easy 5.1 system in to a smaller room. The wireless subwoofer with attached rear speakers makes for a clean look. It sounds good and is easy to set up. The biggest draw back is that the included cables (except for the rear speaker cables) are too short for a wall mounted system. I had to use the power cable from cable box to be able to mount the sound bar on the wall under my TV and purchase an optical cable and digital audio cox cable because included ones were to short to feed through the wall and up to the unit. The unit should really have an HDMI input for those who want to use a sound bar with their TV's HDMI ARC output.- especially since it only has two inputs, so if you have Roku box etc. PLUS a game system/DVD player you can only have one one of them hooked up at a time. I'd have also liked to see a headphone port. Overall I am pleased with the purchase despite having to buy new cables.

When I unboxed the sound bar and hooked it up, I had my fingers crossed. I was not disappointed! Its a powerful system with lots of bass. I like ability to make adjustments to the system. Much much better than my Bose CineMate for half the price!
