A: IPS panels have slightly worse contrast but better viewing angles. So the blacks won't be quite as good, but better viewing if not straight-on. Perhaps some people prefer this trade off?

A: I have the P55, when playing an FPS it seems like the display reads your mind. The input lag on HDMI5 is fantastic. The P55 is a great choice despite it being an IPS display. Colors are accurate and blacks are very black. It is a really great TV.

Q: I heard that the 55" model uses an IPS display which is different from the other sizes. How does this affect picture quality? My main concern is the black levels. does the ips produce deep blacks as well?

A: I have the 55 and the blacks on this TV are extremely good. It seems like that portion of the screen is just off completely. They were able to pull this off with an IPS display due to the FALD backlighting.

Q: Is this a smart tv or do I have to buy something like a Roku to get apps for movies, etc.?

A: It's definitely a smart TV. One uses the Android tablet that comes with the unit or any iOS device to cast streaming apps, like Hulu, to the Vizio.

Satisfied.
Bought this the other day as an open box. This display uses an Android tablet for it's controls. Being an Apple tablet user it took me a bit to get the hang of the Droid operating system - but found it easy and intuitive. This TV rocks! It up converts my 1080i cable feed to an awesome viewing experience. The apps,run really good and stable. This P series set is leaps,and bounds better than lower priced TVs and I would,compare it to displays costing twicemas much. Fantastic picture!! Very pleased.

Excellent UHD Display for the price.
First I returned a P50, which I loved, for the P55 primarily for the better refresh rate (hockey Fan). The first P55 unit was defective... Vizio said 3 to 4 weeks to replace it because it being so new...Best Buy said we will pick the defective unit up and drop off a new P55.... when do you want to do it....Great job Joe at IGH Best Buy.. As for the P55 C1 display it self... I'm not sure there is a better display at this price....Don't get me wrong a OLED display is a better picture, but its 4 times the money... The P55 picture is pretty good out of the box...But after calibrating the display thru a AVS Forum thread...all I can say is WOW. The Visio Smartcast tablet (Google Cast) takes a little getting use to but I'm really getting to like it. Netflix 4K streaming is amazing...the display does a excellent job upscaling all content My only problem... I have the 4K bug...its got me thinking of a 4k bluray player and adding Dolby ATMOS speakers to connect to my Denon AVR710W . The two knocks I've seen in reviews... no digital TV tuner...who cares ...and no 3D ...again who cares. Added bonus... if you do have to speak to Customer Service they are located in South Dakota or Missouri...Thanks Vizio. All in all this is an excellent display with all the future proof bells and whistles like HDR...Don't be a video Snob give Visio a look.

Great price for amazing picture
Technically, this is a display since it does not have a TV tuner. That means you can't directly connect a coaxial cable to this TV. Unless you are connecting an over-the-air antenna, that shouldn't be a problem for cable TV subscribers as you likely connect your TV via HDMI to the cable box anyway. Without a cable box you get most of your content through streaming. It has an integrated chromecast that you use to send content through the included tablet, your Android phone, or an iPhone with the Google Home app. As of this writing, you can get 4K streaming through Youtube, but you will not get HDR or audio beyond stereo. However, Netflix streams 4k, HDR, and Dolby Digital Audio. Netflix delivers a great picture, but from what I understand, the best picture will come through a 4K Bluray player (Xbox One S) is a great option. The display has various display options including gaming, vivid (soap-opera effect), and calibrated (perfect for watching movies). Regardless of the streamed options or display settings, I think the picture in 4K looks amazing. You can see every detail and the vast number of LED bulbs creates awesome contrast. In scenes with both dark and light content, the blacks are pitch black and the whites are bright. If you really want to test this contrast, try watching Gravity (also great for testing the audio). The only complaint I have is that sometimes the software on the phone takes more than one press to turn it on. If I could, I would give this TV a 4.5.
