No complaints - Love this AC Unit
Posted by: skelley2464 from: Saint Augustine, FL on
I have a 2 story house and my downstairs ac unit went out. I bought the Whynter 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and even in 97 degree temps and 1000 square feet it cools the house. Now that is impressive.

I mainly use this during the night. It's super hot and humid here in Ft Worth during the summer. This unit works great! I used to sleep with a box fan going all night to kill noise. Now with this AC unit, i can turn off my central AC at night, and just have this unit on and make my room super cold. The dehumidifier works great as well. My bedroom is no longer stuffy. Yes, this makes noise. Expect it to.
The bad part about this unit is the window connection. It's not energy efficient at all. Hot air comes in from outside in so many places around this piece. I made my own because of this. Just got some MDF, cut it to my window size, cut a couple holes for the hoses, screwed the hose connection pieces to the MDF around the cut holes, used caulk to seal the hose connectors to the MDF, and finally some weather stripping around the perimeter. Air no longer gets by.
I highly recommend this unit. Fantastic.

Very Nice Unit - Works Great
Posted by: rcrask from: Butte, MT on
Let's start with, it is exactly what is was supposed to be. The unit was packed well; arrived in good shape; was easy and quick to set-up; and, worked extremely well from the first moment it was turned on. Our application is in a datacenter as targeted cooling; it pretty much runs 24 x 7 and provides anticipated cooling. The unit is well built, controls are simple and functional, the dual hoses (intake / output) make it nice for assuring best area cooling effectiveness. The noise levels are lower than anticipated and the ability of the unit to dry condensate is good (no excess water build up). From everything I have seen and experienced for the last month or so, I would highly recommend the unit and as importantly, I would buy another one tomorrow if we needed it.

So far so good
Posted by: dedogw from: Hawthorne CA on
Bought the Frigidaire 9000 BTU single hose unit it created a negative air pressure in my apartment and never really cooled the whole apt. Took it back to Best Buy and they refunded my money with no questions. I then ordered this unit on line at the best buy store the sales guy actually put the order in I was informed it would take 10 to 14 days for delivery. I put the order in on Sunday and when I got home on Tuesday it was on my doorstep. Hooked it up via the you tube video and violaa cold air. All is good now happy today and loved the 2 day delivery.

Great unit for a small area
Posted by: BlessedMommy from: Maple valley, Wa on
I have been using this unit to cool an area of around 650 Sq Ft and it works great. It is very simple to install. The noise is equivalent to a large stand up fan, not too bad. Overall a good buy.

Cools Down Quick
Posted by: rob0707 from: New Rochelle NY on
I am very happy with this A/C it cools both my rooms that are 450 sq. ft. I have ceiling fans to assist. I don't have to put in my big A/C every year in my window. I just put in the hoses in the window and when I'm out I remove the hoses out of the window I move them 6 inches from the window to close it.

Save Your "TIME and MONEY" This Product will fail
Posted by: MRRCortech from: on
I have about 35 years of experience in the Computer IT / Electronic Engineering Design, Development and Production Industries. Starting in May of 2014 one of my associates suggested that I try out some of the new Portable AC technologies of which could allow me as a technology consultant to use, test and then recommend to my clients. Myself along with my clients ranging from real-estate owners to large scale warehouse businesses have a common need which is the ability to cool one small room without having to run central air and cool the whole building. Also portable AC(s) can serve as a single room backup in the event of central air failure. I purchased my first Whynter ARC-14S in May 2014 with the expectation of purchasing 3 more at another location if I like the first one. By March of 2015 the first ARC-14S was still performing great so I purchased 3 more (two ARC-14SH and one ARC-12SH).
Now In June 2015, the very first one stopped working and considering it was just after the warranty expiration, I decided to replace it rather than try to get it fixed because Whynter's return policy states that you need to do the following:
1. Box it up in the original packaging (if you still have it).
2. Pay two-way shipping if it is over 2 months old ( Labor and Parts are covered)
3. Pay labor if it is out of 1 yr warranty (only compressor is covered)
For a busy executive with a $450.00 item this process is not worth it. Shipping will cost $250.00
Now the last straw is that in August of 2015, I purchased and replaced the first one with a ARC-143MX which performed perfect until Sept 24th 2015 when it started to Draw 18 amps / 2250 watts of power from it's dedicated circuit before it shuts itself down. I have high level computer protection and monitoring on all circuits so I get an accurate reading of the electronic environment in regards to any event.

haven't set it up yet, but here's starter review
Posted by: LAWoman from: on
Since it arrived, it's been cool in LA.
The cord is short! and they recommend AGAINST an extension cord. So judge this first before purchase.
It was a chore to get it out of its two boxes, but out it came finally and it looks good.
I have sliding doors, so I still need to get a piece of plexi glass cut to make up the difference.
I have high hopes for this - and glad I went all the way to buy the anti-microbial filter.
This unit looks better to my eye than the slightly lesser one which lacks the anti-microbial - but at Whynter they said you could insert an anti microbial filter into the lesser one.

This will cool a 250-300 sq ft room nicely. In 100+ heat, it cooled a living/dining area of about twice that down to around 78. Not chilly, but better than I thought. The air vents shoot the air up, and not straight out, so if you have high ceilings it may feel like it takes a bit longer to cool down but I honestly don't mind. It's also a two-hose exhaust system, which means not just one but two bulky hoses to vent out the window. But that's a small price to pay for being able to sit in my living room in the middle of the afternoon without sweating.

Helps keep me cool
Posted by: aizaku from: on
For a portable AC, this product is amazing. I read most of the reviews before purchasing. It was fairly easy to install. The only difficulty was making it work with jalousie windows. It helps keep my bedroom cool and comfortable during these hot summer days. I usually don't set the temp below 70, and on average the summer days are in the 90s, and this system allows me to rest comfortably in my bedroom during the hot hours. I would reccomend this product to my friends and family.
