I have several outdoor weather stations that send continuous (every 3 seconds) wireless updates to an indoor receiver that is several walls and rooms away from where the signal enters straightline into the house. These batteries perform from -25 degree F to 90 degrees F and typically last for over a full year before needing to be changed. Great when the weather station is on a pole 8+ feet above the ground (no fun to change batteries in mid-winter). I actually change out after 15-months before cold weather sets in so I won't have to think about it in a cold Minnesota winter. These batteries also work great in handheld GPS receivers used for hiking (don't want it to quit out on the trail with kids) and geocaching, as well as for many motorized devices that use AAs. Very impressed with the long life of these batteries.

Energizer - Ultimate Lithium AA Batteries (8-Pack) World's longest lasting AA batteries in high-tech devices. Up to 15 years of shelf life. Performs in extreme temperatures from -40° to 140°F. Energizer ultimate lithium double a batteries are the best batteries that I've ever purchased at Lake to last a very long time so I highly recommend and require you purchase these batteries if you truly need for your batteries to last a lot longer but be ready to spend a little bit more than usual but thankfully Best Buy has credit cards in case you don't have the extra cash on hand

I shoot reality television for a living and capturing good audio is extremely important. Wireless mics eat up normal alkaline batteries and having them die every few hours is a pain. It can really cost you some great soundbites. A friend told me about "the really expensive Energizers" and I tried them out. They blew my mind. I can get approximately 20-30 hours of continuous use in my wireless mics, and that's a very conservative estimate. They are expensive in my opinion, but I've actually had a 4 pack of lithium AA's outlast a 20 pack of standard AA's shooting in the same conditions for the same amount of time. In the long run you're spending the same amount of money if you buy a large pack of AA's, but the reliability and long life make Energizer Lithium AA's well worth the price.

I wouldn't buy these for everything due to the price premium, but I do use them to power an outdoor temperature sensor and a small flashlight I keep in the car. Both are exposed to frigid temps in New England winters, where I find the lithium batteries do much better than traditional alkalines. "Regular" (alkaline) batteries tended to leak or just run out of power quickly in sub-freezing temps, but lithium hasn't been affected much at all. For what it's worth, they're also a good deal lighter than alkalines (and less than half the weight of NiMH rechargeables), which I could see being a consideration for say, serious backpackers or situations where an ounce would make a difference.

I purchased the 8 pack because the manufacturer claims a shelf life of 20 years. I need these batteries for the indoor unit of a 915 Mhz Lacrosse weather station. Regular 1.5 volt alkaline batteries are not strong enough for this unit whereas the Energizer lithium batteries work fine at 1.79 volts. Manufacturer claims that these batteries are good from -40 to +140 degrees Fahrenheit. One disadvantage is that this type of battery is not accepted by some recyclers. The Best Buy price for this 8-pack was one of the lowest that I found.

First, when choosing AA batteries, remember that the chemiistry--e.g., alkaline, nickle metal hydride, Lithium--affects the battery voltage and the way that current can be drawn, and thus what kinds of devices the battery is suited for. A Google search will explain that. If your device needs Lithium batteries, these are dependable and high quality. Never risk a fire or damage to your device by choosing poor quality cheap batteries, the risk isn't worth the price difference.

These batteries are long-lasting, reliable, very light and inexpensive. I have been very satisfied with the performance of these batteries. I'll be honest, I was leery of these when I purchased them. I didn't want to be caught battery-less so I purchased two packages. (One pack to carry for back-ups.) As a Mom, I use my Nikon L830 on a daily basis and after several months, I am still on the first set of batteries. The second package remains unopened. I will continue to carry them around with me though! These are well worth the money and highly recommended. Once you go lithium, you won't go back.

I've used these before in my outside sensor for my weather station. Regular batteries will freeze and quit working when the temperature drops down below zero F. I've recorded minus 23 degrees F on my weather station without these batteries failing. I have since bought these to put in clocks and lights in my unheated garage, and they keep on working. They are more expensive than alkaline batteries, but if you need them to perform in extreme temperatures, they are well worth it!
