Play in Coin Rush mode to see how many coins you can collect across three levels, and then challenge your friends to beat your record with StreetPass. No matter how you play, you'll soon be catching gold coin fever and the only cure is to grab your 3DS and play more New Super Mario Bros. 2.

    Best Buy service is horrible

I wish I had read the reviews here before purchasing this online. I too got a bad code from Best Buy. I don't usually shop at Best Buy anymore, unless its to pick up blank DVD's or something simple like that, but I received some gift cards for Christmas and figured I'd use it to pick my son up a game. The code does not work. I then called Best Buy support, got disconnected by representatives twice, and finally got some one who told me they could not cancel the order. The only option was to accept a reissue of a code, which takes 48-72 hours. So much for the convenience of instant downloads. And based on the prior reviewers experiences, I don't put too much faith in the new code being valid. Do yourself a favor and just purchase the cartridge, at least if your getting it from Best Buy. PS - I got a call from Best Buy 5 minutes later (while writing this review), and was told I could get a refund, which I gladly took. I'm still not pleased by this whole process. It took me an hour to get that straightened out.

    Another good game for Mario!

This Mario game looks and sounds great! It's the best in the portable series so far! Gameplay is very responsive and smooth. 3D effect is very weak, hardly there. Story line is average and game is easier than past Mario games. It would be a good game for a first time Mario player or small kids. If you die too many times on a level, you will be offered the white Tanooki suit. If you use this suit, you will not die (unless you fall off a pit or on lava or purple water) and you can finish the level. Coin collecting is not as fun as in past games since coins are everywhere! You will have multiple extra lives very quickly due to all the coins. Coin rush mode is new to the series and very fun! You will have to run thru previously played levels before timer runs out and get as many coins as possible! You can also play with a buddy every level of the game but both of you will have to have your own copy of the game. If you are a Mario fan already you should definetly not miss out on this game! If you are a first time player to the series, borrow your buddy's game copy and try it out before you decide to buy.

Before I get into this, you have to understand: I've been around a while. I've played the majority of Mario games right from the original Super Mario Brothers. This game has a lot of really solidly built features: super sharp clean graphics, catchy familiar music, tight controls, and lots of stages... The problem is, it's all been done before. By the same creators, the same characters, and all over the place. This Mario game just doesn't bring anything new to the table. The powerups in this game are the typical Mario fare: Raccoon suit, fire flower, star man, mushroom... they brought back the mini shroom and mega shroom (though you won't see those much). They're pandering to beginners by offering a white raccoon suit, which makes you invincible for an entire stage. This is a great Mario game *for someone who hasn't played much Mario before*. For them, it would be amazing. For the rest of us who've been playing Mario for 20 years, it's really forgettable.

Same issue as other reviewer - doesn't work!

I had a gift card and bought a download code in the store - figured it would be nice to have the game saved to the 3DS directly instead of the game card. Got an email activation code right away, went home and it didn't work. Called Nintendo and Best Buy customer service and both said I had to go back to the store. So I drove all the way to the store, waited in the Customer Service line, waited 15-20 minutes for them to decide what to do and they finally returned it and then issued me a new activation code. Got home, tried that one and it also doesn't work! I can't believe how big of a hassle this has been over something that is meant to save time.

    Another good Mario Brothers game.

New Super Mario Bros 2 is more of the same. Not really much has changed since New Super Mario Bros 1. The only real difference is the coin collecting. You may find yourself playing this game unlike other Mario Bros games. You will be slowing down to collect as many coins as possible, unlike past Super Mario Bros games, where coins were an afterthought because the main objective was to get to the end of the level without dying. After you complete the game, (should only take around 5-7 hours to finish the main story) you can play as Luigi by holding down L & R when selecting your game file. The game has good replay value because their is the Star World, which appears after you have beaten the game. But caution, it takes 90 star coins to unlock it! So save up along the main story!

    A Classic Super Mario Platformer

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is reminiscent of the classic Super Mario platforming games that were released for earlier Nintendo consoles. This game takes those conventions and adds features such as new power-ups and extra coins to collect in order to keep the series feeling fresh. The option to play local co-op with a friend or relative also makes for a fun experience that can be shared with others. In short, this game presents itself as a new take on a well-established series and will undoubtedly be considered a classic Super Mario platformer by fans of the series for many years to come.

Saw a great deal on a 3DS and thought I couldn't pass it up. Once I got it, wasn't sure what game to get... I did some research and came across this game. After reading a lot positive reviews and I just right out bought it. Best decision ever! I'm an old school gamer and have always enjoyed Mario games, especially the side scrolling type. This is much like Mario bros Wii(U) with some addons. I like how you can use what I call "Raccoon" tail Mario from Super Mario Bros 3 and now there is white Raccoon and a golden-like Fire Mario. Only on the second world but loving it big time. If your old school or just love Mario, this is must have for your 3DS.

If you have played the previous New Super Mario Bros. game on the DS then expect more of the same solid platforming with this game. The twist here though is that you become an even more manic coin collector. Can you reach 1,000,000 coins? After my first play through of the game I had collected just over 20,000 coins. My only complaint about the game was that it felt incredibly short. I was at the end game during my first sitting (maybe 3-4 hours). The re-playability of this game shines in going back to levels to find its star coins and collecting even more coins to get to that elusive 1,000,000+ mark! Also, this game does not do the 3D feature well, so do yourself a favor and keep the 3D slider off for this experience.
