Q: QuestionClock FeatureWhen not using the unit why does the clock not show the time. If you go to the clock it shows the time for about 10 seconds and the display reverts to Aux. I cannot find any instruction as to how to overcome this problem. I understand that the display shows the station when using the radio, or the display when using the Ipod or Cd portions, but do not understand why the clock is not displayed when not in use. The unit is turned on.
Asked by Bill.
- A:Answer The stereo system is operating normally. The stereo system only leaves the time on the unit for a short duration.

Q: QuestionDoes it take batteries? What kind and how many?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer No. The Panasonic SC-HC25 iPod stereo system can’t accept batteries as a power source. Please note that the Panasonic marketing specifications indicate that this unit requires 120V, 60Hz AC household current to operate. Sorry. However, don’t despair. You can still purchase a portable boombox from Best Buy that will meet your needs. The Sony CFD-G700CP XPLOD boombox |SKU:8521094 provides all of the features that you are looking for in one compact unit. The Sony boombox is powered by 8 D cell batteries and 2 AA batteries for the supplied remote commander. This powerhouse of a boombox offers 20 watts of power, discrete amplifiers, 5 powered speakers, and a Power Drive Woofer to deliver massive bass performance for all of your radio, cassette, CD, and iPod playback needs. The Sony boombox features a 3.5mm line input jack for easy connection to your iPod, iPhone, or any other MP3 player of your choice. A detachable AC power cord is supplied with the Sony XPLOD boombox as an alternate power source for this super bass producing unit. I recommend the use of high-performance Duracell Coppertop or Energizer Max alkaline batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life for the Sony portable stereo. The Sony boombox will outperform the Panasonic shelf system in terms of overall sound quality. It appears that the Best Buy community has many questions and concerns regarding the differences between the boombox and component shelf system product categories. The differences between these two products categories are as follows: Best Buy does not carry any shelf system that can accept batteries as a power source. Traditional stereo shelf systems can only be powered by AC household current. Please note that a boombox is the correct product category for a complete, self-contained audio system that can be powered by batteries or AC power. A traditional boombox is a portable stereo that features an FM/AM tuner, CD player, cassette player/recorder, two full range speakers, power amplifier, carry handle, telescopic antenna, the ability to run off batteries or AC power, and it’s relatively lightweight. Boomboxes can have a range in weight from two pounds to over thirty pounds. Most modern day boomboxes now feature a built-in iPod dock or offer an auxiliary input to accommodate the world’s most popular MP3 player. The distinguishing hallmark of a boombox is that the unit can be taken almost anywhere indoors or outdoors for your listening pleasure, and can be powered by batteries to achieve that goal. The better performing boomboxes are powered by D cell batteries and a large number of them to accommodate their more powerful amplifiers. High performance boomboxes also feature a remote control, headphone jack, adjustable sleep timer, discrete power amplifier system, equalizer or sound field modes, power drive woofer or subwoofer for deep bass performance, connections for DJ lighting equipment, microphone jack, guitar amplification, and case lighting. The compact shelf system does not qualify as a boombox because it can’t be powered by batteries and is far too large and heavy to be considered portable. The shelf system is designed to be used in the home exclusively and can only be powered by AC household current. Shelf systems feature more audio/video inputs to connect optional components to the unit. For example, customers can typically add their TV, DVD player, computer, VCR, turntable, cassette deck, MP3 player, and/or game system to their shelf system for audio playback of these components through the stereo system. However, the boombox typically only has one 3.5mm audio input for connection to an MP3 player. Shelf systems also feature antenna inputs for connection to an external amplified antenna for improved FM reception. Boomboxes rarely feature antenna inputs and are limited to use of the built-in FM telescopic and AM ferrite bar antennas for radio reception capabilities. Many shelf systems offer multiple disc CD changers for uninterrupted music listening. Boomboxes are limited to single disc CD playback. Shelf systems typically include multi-speaker setups with a dedicated subwoofer. The boombox product category is usually limited to a two speaker arrangement. High end shelf systems feature a built-in DVD player, large 7-8 inch LCD viewing display, and can output surround sound to accommodate the film’s soundtrack. Lastly, the shelf system offers much more amplifier output power than the vast majority of boomboxes on the market today. Boomboxes can offer anywhere between 1 watt to 52 watts of total amplifier power. However, shelf systems can range between 10 watts to 1000 watts of RMS measured amplifier output. Good Luck.
