“Can a 3 yr Geek Squad Protection Plan on a laptop be extended before the plan expires?”

We purchased an Asus gaming laptop for my son this last Christmas and when I was offered the plan options by the BestBuy employee he told me only the 2 year plan can be extended. I'm not sure for how long, but I would verify with a BestBuy employee just to make sure.
