Great Question! The gel wrist rest is not attached and would be done during the installation by the consumer. The unit can be used without the wrist rest, but is designed to assist with the proper support for your wrist while using your keyboard. The unit adjust for both the height and tilt with the knob - you loose the adjustment knob - get the keyboard try in thee height and angled at the best tilt for your use and then tighten it up again keeping it all in this position until the adjustment knob has secured it in place.
