No you may not submerge these devices or expose them to large quantities of water. The device is basically waterproof for wearing it around your head when you were doing activities that it will make you sweat. They are protected from sweat and may be a very light mist of rain. I have been in both situations and had no malfunctions.

I've seen youtuber submerge the headphones in water and suggest swimming as a sport in which to use them or running in the elements like rain as well. Based off of that info the answer is ,YES!
