• Hi, support for alienware x15 R1 storage says up to 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe in any slot. The current model drive is Micron 2300 NVMe 512GB.

• It comes with a gen 3 ssd. But slot 1 is a 4th gen compatible slot. Just make sure you either get another heat shield from dell or move the one that’s on the installed drive to the 4th gen you are adding

• The system comes with PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD slot and same has to be purchased for upgrade.
