“I cannot get these to unmute/ am i going to have to return them”

• Try using a different app to see if the same issue occurs. If it does it has a defective mute button.

• you are probably double muted. Mute on Skype may not automatically mute headset and vice versa. Many webmeeting start with muting everyone and you have to both unmute app and this device. I kinda like the double mute ability, but many don't. I am willing to bet for price you will regret return.
