“Why can't smart tv's play prime without the cube? Like Netflix. Comcast says they don't support the Prime streaming application although we do get Netflix and acorn as long as we subscribe. We are subscribed to Amazon Prime TV but it won't run on our X1 X”

Simple, Smart TV's don't carry the app where you are able to d'load it. That is why you need a media box(Nvidia Shield, Fire stick or box or Roku, etc).
