“When watching through the firestick the show drops and goes back to the menu with no loss of wifi connectivity. Know any reason why? By the same token a direct patch to the same HDMI port through a laptop supplied by the same wifi doesn't interfere.”

My initial thought is low voltage to the device, especially if accessing power through the TV and not directly to a wall connection.

One troubleshooting measure you can take is force closing the application that keeps returning to the menu and clearing the applications cache. 1.While in the Fire TV menu, select settings and go to applications. 2.Scroll to the bottom and select manage installed applications and select the application in which the issue is occurring with. 3.Once you have selected the application click Force Stop, and then clear cache. Also, make sure you have the Fire TV Stick plugged into the wall outlet with the original provided equipment. I hope this helps, have a great day!
