Can you tell if you have purchased the newest generation by the box? I purchased a Kindle Paperwhite and was told that it was the newest one. I think that it may be the 2nd generation. How can I telll which model that I have for sure? I bought this somewhere else. The Kindle name below the screen is in white not black.

The Kindle Paperwhite 2 has the Kindle logo below the screen in white and the Paperwhite 3 is in piano black. The other way to verify which version you have in look at the fonts available while reading a book. The new Paperwhite 3 has a new font named Bookerly that was specifically designed for the new 300 ppi display. I hope this helps.

Yes on the front of the box of the new 3rd edition Paperwhite it should say "Now with a 300 PPI display"

It states 300ppi resolution in small print on the outside of the box Also on the lower face of the actual reader the word "Kindle" is in black letters rather the silver/white.

The older model Paperwhite has a Kindle written in white print on the front of the device. Newest model has it written in glossy black.

The only way I would know for sure is the newer kindle is 300 ppi. I hope this helps. I
