Hi Dana! Unlike the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft readers, the Kindle Scribe is NOT waterproof. If you're looking for something safe for poolside reading, the Colorsoft or Paperwhite would be better choices, though they don't have the ability to write on them like the Scribe does.
