• No. Only when placed with back of phone on station does it charge.

• No, it doesn't charge the phone (iPhone SE 2nd Gen) if you put it upside down. Rather than light solid blue, the indicator will flash blue which tells you that the device is not charging. It otherwise charges well and pretty fast.
