A:AnswerUsually, when the battery BACK-UPS turns itself off or trips a breaker, it is due to what is known as a 'line fault'. This means that the power line is either poorly wired, or not grounded appropriately. It may be older wiring in the home. A GFI (ground fault indicator) will usually indicate this issue - any electrician should be able to tell if you lines are properly installed and up to code. Older homes built before current code experience this more commonly, but do-it-yourself wiring or shoddy workmanship can also be to blame. Any creatures that may be chewing exposed wires or damages to wiring through other means can cause this as well.
A:AnswerI'm guessing here, because I only use it to protect computer equipment. I think it can power a fan, but probably not for very long. During our last power outage I used it to power a LED light bulb (about 4 watts) for several hours, but does a fan draw more than 4 watts?
A:AnswerYes, but not for very long. In my case, it powered the phone company "modem", an ethernet switch, and whatever box the phone company had outside my house for about 1/2 hour. I have another of these that ran my Mac mini for long enough for a clean shut down. Then I used it's power to run a led light bulb (about 4 watts) for several hours.
A:AnswerAPC units do clean the power coming out of the wall, however make sure you buy one with enough wattage for the equipment you’re planning on running. For example, and microwave can be anything from 1000-1600 watts.
A:AnswerThank you for your interest in our unit. Unfortunately this UPS doesn't have an user replaceable battery. If you are interested in having an user replaceable battery you can upgrade to our BN650M1.
A:AnswerYou can buy an adapter at the hardware store that converts a 3-way grounded plug to a 2-way ungrounded outlet. If you want to ground it anyway, some adapters have an extra connector you can wire if you're experienced. It should work just fine.
A:AnswerI had the same issues several times. The short answer is: this unit is a piece of crap. Do like I did and throw it in the garbage and buy a model a couple steps up. This was the first time I had purchased the entry-level unit from APC and I should have known better. My last higher-end units lasted for years with zero issues. This was nothing but trouble. APC should be ashamed of themselves for producing such an inferior product.
A:AnswerNone. This is stand alone. I would purchase one that can shut devices like a PC down safely without user intervention. APC offers some with USB and downloadable software to accomplish.
